ammunition factories

Macaba

We need more munitions factories. It would give more people more jobs and more weapons to protect ourselves. Our armed forces are being neglected in the the worst way. So you peaceniks can have your way as for the militarist nations we must act now. War is just around the corner.:sniper:

We think this fragment of the proposer's speech says it all.

It is not the duty of the United Nations to provide weaponry to any state. "Peacnik" or not. If anything it is up to the UN to try to curb munition sales, not make increases in them.

By "militarist nations", do you mean nations such as Macaba who seek to embroil the world in the scourge of warfare?

The Holy Empire of Imota maintains a powerful army for a nation of our size in order to deter hostile agressors and maintain internal security. We also pride ourselves on the fact that all citizens are veterans and are capable of using guns to protect themselves. However, we also assert the right to determine our military and civil defense policies as we see fit, and acknowledge the right of other countries to do so as long as they refrain from initiating unjust wars.

We unequivocally reject this proposal. War is hell, and we must not grow fond of it.

"The Armed Republic of Catawaba seconds the sentiments of Ambassador Alsonis and the ambassador from Direngray. Also, it should be noted that it is not established precedent that the United Nations has the power to force member nations to create any type of business. Now, close or regulate business maybe but not open." Ambassador Seigfreid rustled around some papers and took out a legal paper and set it at the front edge of his table.

"Any supporter of this measure, please come and sign this pad. The Catawaban government would surely like to know which one of you warmongers is most likely to run out of ammunition if you start something." The balding man grinned and leaned back in his chair. "Oh as an aside, Ambassador Alsonis...you ran two very good quotations together. First is 'War is hell,' and the second is "it is well that war is so terrible, lest we grow too fond of it'."

Poor you and your military being neglected and all that. I think every member nation needs to send you at least one nuke missle to make your folks happy... Shall I start the countdown or do some of you need time to adjust the missle codes for proper delivery points within the border of Macaba. Thus I shall hold of the countdown so we can all send them their way at once..

:mp5:The empire of loltings speaks for all of Brinotopia when it says that the increase in munitions would be greatly beneficial to the economy and secrity of all nations and regions. I therefore agree with this statement.:mp5:

Seigfried reached across his table and scrawled 'the Empire of Loltings and all of Brinotopia' on to his legal pad under the title of 'Malicious, Mind-Meandering Malcontents Missing Munitions."

We appreciate your kind words and helpful suggestions, but Agregorn is more than capable of defending itself against bloodthirsty nations. As for the true purpose of the UN, wouldn't improved economic relations help all nations? Also, what exactly are you proposing... UN funding to improve arms? I would say that improving weaponry is the duty of the nation.

However... I will encourage that we not adopt a pacifist attitude towards the other nations of the world (particularly those not in the UN). Agregorn would be happy to render aid to assaulted UN nations. We would rather that no aid were needed, however. I think we'd all benefit from a stronger DEFENSIVE military, and technology needed to develop purely defensive weapons should be encouraged, or even proposed as a bill. I'd be eager to hear the voices of other peaceful nations, and their opinions.

Imota, War is hell... conquest is far worse. Let us encourage the shield and not the sword.

All this talk about war being hell reminds me of this exchange from M*A*S*H.

Hawkeye: War isn't Hell. War is war, and Hell is Hell. And of the two, war is a lot worse.
Father Mulcahy: How do you figure, Hawkeye?
Hawkeye: Easy, Father. Tell me, who goes to Hell?
Father Mulcahy: Sinners, I believe.
Hawkeye: Exactly. There are no innocent bystanders in Hell. War is chalk full of them - little kids, cripples, old ladies. In fact, except for some of the brass, almost everybody involved is an innocent bystander.

Bahgum is alarmed by the militant tendencies of some fellow UN nations. As a nation with no actual manufactured arms, or need for any, other than the Bahgumian handbag brick, we view requests to create more weapons with distrust.
Bahgum need not remind most nations, however, that the Bahgumian handbag brick is wielded by the infamous Bahgumian Mother in Law Security Squads. Peaceful nations should rest assured that we have no plans for a mother in law visiting party to their respected nations.

We rise to raise a point of order. It would appear that the esteemed representatives of Macaba and Loltings are brandishing weapons in the General Assembly here. Do we not have a sergeant-at-arms to prevent such reckless gunplay, lest some innocent delegation come to grief?

You're assuming there is such a thing as an innocent delegation to the UN.
