It is considered friendly to post your resolution in this chamber; for convenience, here it is:
A resolution to tighten or relax gun control laws.
Category: Gun Control
Decision: Relax
Proposed by: Porterika
Description: In order to rid the world of tyranny, one must be armed. Not in defense of thy fellow citizen, but rather in defense of thy government. For a government that is in fear of it's citizenry will not corrupt.
This act will ensure just that. This act is to make firearm* ownership mandatory* upon one turning 18* years of age. Citizens will be tested in the safe and proper use of common types of firearms. Failure to comply will result in a writen warning, a second non-compliance resulting in a fine of $1000.00. Persistant failure to comply will result in imprisonment of 1 year, to be be doubled after each non-compliance thereafter.
Notes & Definitions:
*Firearm- A device designed to be fired by hand from the shoulder, hip, free hand or by means of a supporting device.
*Mandatory- Citizens who have moral, religious or other strong conviction opposed to the ownership of a weapon will go before a court to state their reasonable oppposition for record.
*Age of ownership- Firearm ownership shall be permitted as of a citizen's 16th birthday, and being required to be in ownership of a firearm by 11:59PM on the day of their 18th birthday
Our own opinion is that submitting this to comment in this chamber before moving it would have resulted in a much better piece of legislation than this borderline-legal effort. First, putting absolute values for fines is extremely unwise; not only does this not account for differential wealth across nations and not allow for inflation, but we have no idea what value to place on this "$".
Second, and a subject that vexes us sorely since we first fell foul of it, putting absolute ages into a proposal is an invitation to disaster. The member nations of the UN have citizens who are not human, and in many cases have radically different life expectancies. For some, 18 years of age may still be part of infancy; for others, an impossibly ancient age.
We freely admit that it is highly unlikely that we would vote for such a questionably wise proposal, even if properly drafted, but in its current state no one who cares for the quality of legislation should give it a second glance.

Compulsory Gun ownership is another issue that I think should be decided at a local level.

Trey gave me a message to pass along to this assembly after meeting with Douria's Department of Arms Manufacturing, and I quote:
"Fuck that shit".
*George looks down at the sheet before him, smiling a bit*
Apparently, he's looking at this as another case of some crackpot UN nation trying to tell other crackpot UN nations what to do. He apparently doesn't like that.
While it would indeed help the Arms Manufacturing industry, I feel this infringes on the rights of individual nations in a very serious way. We stand opposed to this measure in any and all forms.
We of Evoinia agree with our friend from Doria. This infringes on the rights of individual nations and must be stopped.

We are perplexed as to why such a law needs to be enacted. Our citizens have at their disposal weapons whenever they want, we are a warrior race and the government is not afraid of its citizens and the citizens are not afraid of their government.
Fear is weakness, no matter who is receiving the emotion. 2-72-11'13 TT of Botrwa states: "Stand with honor and even if a weapon cut you down, you will live; so what does the warrior have to fear from others? (12) All you can get from fear is paralysis of action and that leads to death. (13) Be honorable and live forever with the other honorables, be fearful and die alone with all the other fearful who hide from everything." Look it up and you'll see for yourself.
