Hi,

The nation of Vacatti has posted several Enviromental resolutions. The Environment is extremely important and the purpose of those resolutions, listed on page 5 are to improve our environment. So I encourage you all to check out the resolutions, and to post on here what you think about them, what suggestions you may have for revision, and what you may suggest for in the future.

Thanks and have a great day

Unfortunately, both of those plus your illegal Abortion Crime Resolution have already been posted in the "Silly and/or Illegal Proposals. zOMG!" (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=13215505&postcount=5379) thread.

In the future it would be a good idea to post the text of your proposal(s) here before submitting them so that the forum regulars can point out any potential problems.

You've been busy.

Abortion Crime Resolution
A resolution to restrict civil freedoms in the interest of moral decency.

Category: Moral Decency
Strength: Strong
Proposed by: Vacatti

Description: This resolution would make abortions a crime except in the case of the life of the mother is in question.

This resolution would be binding for all member nations.

Approvals: 0 This is illegal, because it contradicts previous UN legislation which gives national abortion laws precedence.

UNOO
A resolution to promote funding and the development of education and the arts.

Category: Education and Creativity
Area of Effect: Artistic
Proposed by: Vacatti

Description: The purpose of this resolution is to set up a United Nations Orchestra & Opera to show to the world that the UN takes the fine arts sector seriously and wants to strive for the promotion of the arts.

the UNOO will be compromised of the best talent from every member nation within the UN.

Approvals: 2 (Scott Tree, Chickenstate) Yeah, and while all the world's diplomats and dignitaries and cultural elite are crowding into this concert hall to pat themselves on the back for being so artistically aware, what is the UN actually doing to promote the arts internationally?

Repeal "The Sex Industry Worker Act"
A proposal to repeal a previously passed resolution

Category: Repeal
Resolution: #91
Proposed by: Vacatti

Description: UN Resolution #91: The Sex Industry Worker Act (Category: Free Trade; Strength: Significant) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

Argument: The Sex Industry work act is deplorable and must be repealed

Approvals: 2 (NewTexas, Flibbleites) Why is it deplorable? I can be persuaded, but I need to hear an argument first.

These are the ones to which you were probably referring:

Solar Transit Act
A resolution to increase the quality of the world's environment, at the expense of industry.

Category: Environmental
Industry Affected: Automobile Manufacturing
Proposed by: Vacatti

Description: The Solar Energy Act will require the abolition of all diesel and gasoline using vehicles and transit services replacing them with solar powered alternatives. This would not only save our enviroment, but it would also lower the effects of global warming. Solar Power utilizes the power of one of our greatest resources, that being the sun, and it eliminates the usage of costly resources such as petroleum and other fuel products.

Approvals: 0 At least Promotion of Solar Panels was written in a way remotely resembling the proper format for a UN resolution. The UN has already learned its mistakes from PoSP and I doubt it will be repeating them. [snorts] AHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! ... I'm sorry, I just couldn't say that with a straight face.

Alternative Power Act
A resolution to increase the quality of the world's environment, at the expense of industry.

Category: Environmental
Industry Affected: All Businesses
Proposed by: Vacatti

Description: The purpose of this act is to eliminate the need of a traditional power grid, and replace it with that of solar panels. A Traditional power grid causes tax payers in many countries a huge burden, and in some situations makes electricity an unaffordable commodity. By utilizing solar panels everyone will have the benefit of electricity in their own homes while taking a strain off the consumer. Power Grids and power plants also put a strain on our enviroment through ecological pollution. Solar Power is safe, user friendly, and effective.

I propose that all nations be required to implement solar power for homes, business, making the traditional power grids and power plants irrelevant, and useless, thus saving our enviorment from undue pollution.

Approvals: 1 (Galgenstrick) What sort of monetary burden do you expect to befall electricity consumers if you suddenly replace entire nations' existing energy grids with solar panels? Again, improper format, and this probably should have been incorporated into the above proposal.

Annual ROCK the UN Concert
A resolution to promote funding and the development of education and the arts.

Category: Education and Creativity
Area of Effect: Artistic
Proposed by: Vacatti

Description: This resolution would set for annual rock concert performed by the top rock n' roll artists in order to raise money for charitable causes determined by the UN World Body.

ROCK the UN would be a concert that could accommodate 1,000,000 people in the physical audience, and a viewing audience of virtually the entire world.

A vote for this resolution is a vote for the worthy causes of the world.

Thanks, Vacatti

Approvals: 0 First off, this is illegal because you can't "sign" your resolutions. It's called branding. Also, only rock n' roll? What about rap, R&B, alternative, country western, jazz fusion, folk music, chick rock, the crazy guy screaming song lyrics on the street corner, or extinct Peruvian mountain banjo music? It's sort of metagaming to require the UN to determine the good causes this concert will benefit, unless "World Body" is a committee you're trying to establish.

Genocide Act
A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.

Category: Human Rights
Strength: Strong
Proposed by: Vacatti

Description: This resolution would make Genocide a crime worthy of invasion. If a nation commits an act of national genocide then they will be brought before the UN Security Council and promptly "invaded" by peace keepers who will find together, an alternative government or whatever the solution need be, to end the Genocide.

This resolution would effect every member nation as Genocide is abhorrent and should be avoided at all costs. Human life is a valuable commodity and must not be sacrificed for any political cause no matter how attractive or lucrative.

Approvals: 0 OK, you're duplicating Humanitarian Intervention (which is basically illegal and should be repealed); genocide is already illegal under UN protocols; there is no "Security Council"; and you can't create a UN police/military force.

Delegate Protection Act
A resolution to improve world security by boosting police and military budgets.

Category: International Security
Strength: Strong
Proposed by: Vacatti

Description: This resolution would provide for the protection of all UN delegates physically and financially. Any nation who willfully kills another delegate will be subject to severe sanctioning and possibly banishment from the United Nations.

This resolution would create an agency that would oversee the protection of all delegates. And give a budget increase to current funds delegated to Delegate security, a boost of 36%

Approvals: 0 The 36% bit is metagaming. If you're talking the UN budget, there isn't one; if you're talking about the budgets of individual nations, you can't change budget stats, since they're coded into the game. Also, what "delegates" are you referring to? If it's the Regional Delegates, that's metagaming; if it's ambassadors and diplomats to the UN, a lot of this is already covered by the Continuity of Government act. Also, resolutions can't require the expulsion of UN members; that's the mods' job.

Here are some helpful resources should you decide to write legal proposals later on: the proposal rules (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=420465), and the list of past UN resolutions (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=357572) (since duplicating or contradicting them would be illegal). Also, Yelda's right: post here for peer review before submitting; it helps improve the quality of the legislation being voted on, and saves you the headache of mod warnings and possible ejection from the UN for submitting illegal proposals.

oh no! I don't want to be ejected. :-( I hope the UN mods will go easy on me and my ignorance. :-(

but yea, I had no idea.

Yeah - all that got you only one warning. You get two more before the nukes fly.

We like it when new players learn from their early mistakes, and hope you'll find good (and legal) ways to participate in the UN. Welcome to NationStates!
