Ban Sagging

A resolution to restrict civil freedoms in the interest of moral decency.

Category: Moral Decency

Strength: Significant

Proposed by: Statistia

Description: Teenagers in many UN member nations have recently taken to sagging their pants. This is intended as a "show of solidarity" with prisoners who are not permitted to wear a belt because it could be perceived as a dangerous weapon.

The UN finds that sagging:

Is morally offensive
Is a horrible fashion style
Promotes crime
Is a form of gang dress

Therefore, the UN mandates that all member nations must ban sagging and make it a felony.

No. This is stupid. Against.

And really, a FELONY? Just no.

Besides, I don't want my pants making industry to be upset over nothing.

I thought the belts were taken away to prevent suicide attempts? We can actually make UN laws to decide what people can wear? wow

Promotes crime

Sure, because I know when I see people wearing their pants low, it makes me want to commit armed robbery, set the elderly on fire, and not return my library books.

Is morally offensive

Indeed; in terms of morally offensive actions it ranks just below incest, though just above fellating kittens with beer bottles.

(Ironic that I was thinking that I would have to come up with a rant against ageism against the elderly... instead it's ageism against youth. Now, if it were that other kind of sagging, I think there'd be a case just on the ugh factor.)

In Cobdenia, if we see someone wearing their pant's too low, we call them a "tramp". And give them a bit of rope to hold their trousers up. Or, in more extreme cases, a barrell with comical braces

Logopia cannot support this proposal.

Is morally offensive

To whom? I sincerely doubt it is considered offensive in all of the +20,000 member nations. I would not even think a majority of the 500 million Logopians consider it so.

Is a horrible fashion style

Irrelevant. The UN really has no bussiness regulating fashion.

Promotes crime

I wonder what studies support this notion.

Is a form of gang dress

Oddly enough, while we don't support it, this is the one argument we find at least somewhat coherent. Gang dress, if not accompained by actual illegal activities, is nothing more than a from of expression. It might make a statement we could find offensive, and maybe even detrimental to society. As so, we understand why some nations would want to restrict it. Yet, Logopia considers it a duty of the state to protect the freedom of their nationals to express themselves, even when their ideas are uncomfortable.

Promotes crime
You're right it does, every time I see someone with their pants sagging it make me want to reach over and yank their pants up to their armpits and secure them there with duct tape.

On the other hand, the UN has no business setting dress codes for it's members.

You don't say. No wait you did say. Well it's fascinating none the less.

As to the deletion of the proposal from the queue.

While "horrible fashion style" is a criminal offense in our country, we don't really see where it's the UN's business to tell our Happiness Police how to do their jobs.

I agree that this fashion if you can call it that is representing a culture that glorifies criminal behavior. but on the other hand i think that it would be silly for the government to be running around checking everyones pants.
BUT FOR THE MOST PART I AGREE ON THE BAN!
VOTE YES ON THE SAGGING BAN!

why not just institute an international dress code? we could differentiate between each other's abilities by color codes too... the smart ones wear a certain color, the strong ones wear another, the menial labor crowd could also be wearing another color.... and on and on....

By the way, the above is sarcasm showing an extreme form of Nsdar's logic if we accept his view at face value.... have to add this statement so that no one starts thinking that I am supporting this ban.... :headbang:

ooc: It is not wrong at all! Whenever I see it I want to open my mouth in a similar triangular grin and go "Aaaaaaaww" at it. I've tried photochopping in the SS hat (I'm the one guilty of photochopping in the Stalinist hat, too) but it doesn't really look as good - it's the wrong shape, and isn't colourful enough to look very interesting. Comrade Katski is much more aesthetically pleasing than Übersturmgruppführer von Katzen.

Baggy Pants Are Wrong.

Just because people like to dress a certain way, and you don't like it, doesn't justify banning it. Besides, maybe someone doesn't like the way you dress.

Baggy Pants Are Wrong.

You've got a real problem with just spouting things off and not ever telling any of us the reasoning behind such spoutings. All this makes me think is that there is no reasoning involved whatsoever. Start supporting your claims whilst I begin handing out subsidies to Roseariean baggy pants companies.

- Gordon Tills, Roseariean ambassador to the UN, hoping to fix a problem before it strikes again on a more important issue.

Baggy Pants Are Wrong.

What have the baggy pants said to you that you believe them to be so wrong and how long have you been having conversations with baggy pants?
