To all UN delegates,

My proposition, whilst still in the early stages of UN process, is a proposition that could drastically change our education system, so please, check it out and if you believe it to be good enough, then help brong this to the UN.

It's considered good form to post your Proposal.

Right to childhood education
A resolution to promote funding and the development of education and the arts.

Category: Education and Creativity
Area of Effect: Educational
Proposed by: Sadistic Moles

Description: Every human being living in civilized culture has the right to education. Therefore, this resolution puts forward a proposal to the UN being that;

Section 1: The right to a childhood government schooling education for everyone from the ages of six to eighteen is mandatory for all UN nations that have not already done so.

Section 2: This education may take place in a any school that has passed the requirements of the UN. The requirements being: all students in a school must be divided into a class with no more than 25 minors per teacher, schools must pass annual tests to ensure they are appropriate for a learning environment, all teachers must be fully qualified to the UN standards.

Section 3: Adults who do not wish their children to attend government schooling have the choice to hire a private tutor; however these must have the full qualifications as a government school teacher and the government must be notified of all children receiving private tutoring to make sure they are receiving their entitled education.

Section 4: UN Member countries may choose, depending on their economy status, to allow students to stop schooling at the age of 15, providing they apply for an apprenticeship in a trade, such as carpenter or cabinet maker.Unfortunately, this seems to run afoul of an existing Resolution, specifically: UN Educational Aid Act (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=11663193#post11663193)

The education proposal that doesn't fall foul of UNEAA is a rare beast. Some day those weasel words are going to be annoying enough that we'll have to repeal it.

We find this part comes up often and you forget not all nations use the same age standards as yours does to decide who is a child and who is able to work. So any that puts ages in it is open to problems from those nations that may not want your ages or have an effective eduction system working for children of other ages.

Section 1: The right to a childhood government schooling education for everyone from the ages of six to eighteen is mandatory for all UN nations that have not already done so.

An example is that my own nation requires schooling in basic courses from age five until age ten. Then males enter the military service for two years and females train in medical skills unless they are not planing to marry after school then they also enter military for two year. At age twelve they become full citizens with all rights to move forward with their lives.

Also they have no choice but to attend national school as it is part of becoming a citizen of this nation to complete to standards set courses provided or you don't gain citizenship rights this also includes the two years of either military service, medical service, or other service (for those may not be able to do the main two). Here there is a place for all and they must be educated in the basics to be productive here as anyone can do something if they get an eduction. Those that refuse end up criminals and that is a different matter as our prisons are not hotels/motels like those in some nations.

females train in medical skills unless they are not planing to marry after school then they also enter military for two year. You expect ten year olds to decide if they're going to marry or not? What's your life expectancy? 30?

Kyle.935, the six foot, six-year old, teenager-analog Guardian arose. "Hard coding ages doesn't work. Some species mature quickly, as mine does, and others might remain children for decades. I'm six years old, and my mandatory education has already been completed. I'm a full-fledged adult, which is why I work here with my... er... uncle. Although, I've been working here since I was four. Anywho, providing mandatory education until 18 for us is unreasonable, obviously. We're also schooled by the Network, our computer system.

"Finally, and the thing that makes the Commonwealth say 'meh' to this resolution... we're not human. Thus, other than human-child Citizens, we're off the hook for this, methinks. Or at least, that's what our courts are planning to argue."

Define "civilised culture".

all teachers must be fully qualified to the UN standards.

What standards?

Section 3: Adults who do not wish their children to attend government schooling have the choice to hire a private tutor; however these must have the full qualifications as a government school teacher and the government must be notified of all children receiving private tutoring to make sure they are receiving their entitled education.

This would prevent countries from mandating compulsory schooling. I can't accept that.

This would prevent countries from mandating compulsory schooling. I can't accept that. This is mandatory; it just means parents can opt out in favor of a private tutor. It sort of eliminates home schooling, which is kind of outrageous, but at least it's "compulsory" enough for your taste. It also gives more flexibility for parents whose children are too busy to attend regular classes, like child actors, musicians, or children with chronic illnesses.
