The Nations of the world should fund money to build a long standing giant monument to represent peace on earth.

All nations shall fund a team of artist with there idea for the new piece to add to the monument that represents there country's effort to promote peace.

New pieces will be added every year by each nation allowing the monument to grow, just as peace grows on earth.

its a nice idea, but it should be peace in the universe, since some countries aren't on earth.

but thecraigzone is a long term lover of peace and the Daft Invader asks where to send the cheque

yeah,a beautiful idea,but whose fund that will be used?it is not cheap right?maybe it can be build after 10years later (especially in the 3rd world countries/newborn countries).

I don't see this fitting into any category.

Are warring nations forbidden from contributing? What if a worldwide conflict emerges? Will the monument be left un-changed until the conflict is over? What decides the order... time since last conflict... greatest sense of domestic peace...? Where is the monument to be built? GBD has so many questions before it endorses this idea.

Perhaps a collage of images on a web page. Any better ideas or thought or some way to facilitate this idea or a similar idea. It's not a perfect idea but does this in any way spark a better idea?

I understand that wars must be fought. Sometime loss of life due to political conflict can be subverted through diplomacy and peaceful means. In no way is this meant to offend all the valiant soldiers of the world who fought bravely for there country, on the contary this monument is a memorial to all the people who promoted peace in effort to help bring home from war all the valiant soldiers to there family's through out history.

That's wonderfully poetic, but I think you'll need to flesh it out before it will work as a proposal.

For one, what's your argument in favor of a massive monument fostering peace rather than just tourism?

We would gently chide the Lennonite ambassador for falling for a homonym error, writing "there" for "their" throughout. That niggle aside, we rather like the idea of a monument to peace. Unfortunately we have to concur Ambassador Dioce; at present, there is little compelling reason offered for the UN to force nations to contribute to this delightful idea. Bear in mind that when the UN states that "member nations shall" do something, then the doing of that something is not optional, and much as we like the concept we cannot accept that such a demand from the UN is reasonable.
