What's this proposal actually say?

Peace On Earth Day

Category: Human Rights
Strength: Strong
Proposed by: J W Lennon

Description: One day every year the nation of the world shall celebrate a peace on earth day.

1. No wars will be fought a cease fire must be declared on that day by all waring nations.

2. The world will gather at 12:00 noon at various locations ans sing "All we are saying is give peace a chance."

Approvals: 10....

Uh, I ask that further reading be dispensed with. Thanks, Clerk-dude. Doing the work that us representatives are too lazy to do.

Darren shoots the Reading Clerk a thumbs-up.

Leaving aside the other problems with this proposal, we'd just like to demonstrate our amusement with an illustrative song.

Imagine there are countries
It isn't hard to do
Something to kill or die for
And some religions too
Imagine all the armies
Living normal life....

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as now.

And I say to myself, it's a wonderful world.

Hell, I'm a representative from a peacenik nation. I'll be amused by the reaction of the guys that actually bring armed guards here.

Darren is handed a small piece of paper.

It also seems I'm supposed to "raise a point of order that the proposal in question would not improve worldwide human and civil rights". Silly lawyers....

Bah. If it's peace you want, a mandatory bed-in is the only way to go. ;)

Would aplaud the noble Funkel for his brillante rendation of that goldie; but last time took my shoes off to do that many were evacuated to local hospiutal. Also want to request if he does 2525 or 99 Red Balloons..

The idea of a day to contemplate peace, and to honour those who strive to achieve it is worth considering in principal. Unfortunately, the proposal that warring nations observe this day by inacting a temporary ceasefire is not likely to be enforceable. I suggest that this bill be sent to committee for revision. Perhaps we can have a more symbolic international day in recognition of peace rather than attempting to legislate a day of actual peace.

You can just write up a new proposal text.

And by the way, wouldn't the Global Disarmament category fit the statistical effects of the proposal more accurately?

How can i change it to a International holiday! You try writing a proposal, then put it up here as a draft and let people pick it apart or patch it together until you get something workable.

Then you submit it (if you have two endorsements from UN nations in your region), make some sort of sacrifice to the Dark Side to make sure it isn't deleted, then start telegramming other nations' delegates to endorse it ...

Then you spend a couple of days biting your fingernails hoping it will get enough endorsements to be debated. And if it does, then you spend another couple of days arguing with (obviously gormless) opponents who say it's the worst proposal EV-AH!, bar none (until the next one).

In short, writing a successful proposal is not for the faint-hearted. But it has been done, and will be again, and people here will help. Have fun.
