Should Nations and citizens go back to the old method of handwashing their laundry?

Hello nations. I think we should handwash our clothing reasons for 1. Even though it takes longer to do by handwashing them it cleans the clothing better. 2. The laundry doesn't shrink. 3. It saves lots of water and the nvironment. 4. You don't have to use much water to wrince your clothing. As I say again think about this and submit your vote. Remember nations it's an idea. signed by Alongapoe

Do you actually have a draft proposal? Because this idea is silly and isn't going anywhere...except for a laundry fight!

I think we all need to remember that not all sapient species have hands with which to perform the handwashing of laundry. It would be grossly unfair to order those without hands to do handwashing.

Hey, cut the guy (I mean Nation State) some slack!

Handwashing clothes is effective, saves energy, water, and money (although the manual labour required to do this task may cut into formal work time, resulting in a salary decrease, but that depends).

Plus, since the task is very labourous but does not shrink clothing it will encourage consumers to buy fewer clothes. More land can be devoted to crop farming instead of sheep grazing and cotton farming. More people will be fed and the planet becomes a little greener.

Maybe it is not a bad idea after all, but I suggest that instead of banning washingmachines we try banning clothes dryers, which consume more electricity of gas (depending on power source), and promoting clothing line drying instead.

But if we do that, it will only encourage "collectors" to steal womens' underthings from off the line.

Don't laugh. Panty-theft is a serious crime in our country!

Hey we are ahead here as do this all time. Hope in shower fully dressed add soap and wash then get naked and wash body... hang cloths out to dry...

Only trouble is deciding what type soap one uses as some are toxic and poison the water suppy and not so sure it does better job than the superduper washy machines most now use with the hyperfilters and such to clean the water once used and cut the water needed.

Also if it a cold cloudy day then can't dry them well until warmer or have to turn up heat then all that polution due to fossil fuel used to heat..

Y'know, ever since the environmentally-friendly washing machine and dryer in the Nord-Brutlandese Mission broke down, I am forced to wash my clothes... My number two wife sister will gladly take all your laundry and handwash it should you wish her services. As she needs the funds since her husband ran off and left her with six kids to care for.. and I'm getting tired of her here with us... so if you wish contact me and will give you her number...

Though we sympathize with your sister and appreciate the offer, I am afraid that the Nord-Brutlandese Mission does not have more funds to pay for a laundryperson, let alone fix our NatureClean™ environmentally-friendly washing machine. So Kyle still has to handwash our clothes.

But if your sister wants to, we could accommodate some of her children in our Mission. My boss likes children, would soon have one, and would most probably want a playmate for her soon-to-be-born offspring.

The demise of Lo Fat's aside, the answer to this dilemma is quite simple. Ban the washing of clothes completely. Water will be conserved and no longer be contaminated with detergents; clothes will not undergo the wear and tear of laundering and if worn continuously will develop an armor-like coating that in ideal circumstances will serve to protect the wearer from insects and other pests.

The increase in natural body odors will contribute to maintaining an individual's personal space, which in turn will aid in controlling the world's population growth and contribute to world peace, since the prospect of more than a moments time around others will prevent extended contact and lower the opportunities for irritation.

And if Kawaiian panties aren't hung on a clothes line, it's much more difficult to steal them. ;)

Back to the Basics?

The Issue

In yet another slow week, it has come to your attention that a group of individuals wish to ban the use of electric washers and go back to hand washing clothing.

The Debate

1. "Why couldn’t we go back to hand washing our clothes?," says group spokesperson Clint Billton. "Even though it takes a little longer, hand washing cleans clothes better, your laundry won’t shrink, and it saves water and the environment! So, what’s not to like?”
[Accept]

2. "What’s not to like?!,” exclaims suburban housewife Naki King, “I have places to go and things to do, like drive my kids to soccer practice and buy food. I just don’t have time to hand wash everything. So just ignore these hippies and focus on what really matters, like increasing Education funding.”
[Accept]

3. "Like, dude I’ve got a good idea.," says teenager George W. Christmas, speaking while flies buzz around him, “What if we banned washing clothes all together! Clothes won’t get torn up from from laundering and if we wear them all the time they’ll get an armor-like coating that protects the wearer from insects and other pests. Great idea, huh?”
[Accept]

4. “We’re sitting on a gold mine here, If you ban washing clothes all together then all people will do is buy new ones!” says Clothes Mart CEO Colin Jong-il. “Just think how powerful the economy will be. Of course, the trash level will reach massive levels but if you just bulldoze a couple of forests no one will notice.”
[Accept]

But let us return to the debate. We contend that this is in the wrong category.

Heh. Well, making nudity compulsory may already be an issue choice somewhere - but banning clothes still seems like a good addition to the issue.

That said, this topic should probably be split off and placed in "Got Issues?"

This is a stupid idea cause it has nothing to do with politics!Sure it does as maybe you have never had to sit in a meeting debating and issue and had stiff dirty shorts... or one of your fellow politicians needs a change of drawers and bath. Also maybe you have never had a 3000~ pair of drawers ruined because somebody didn't know how to wash them right. Politicians need to look and smell sharp so washing their clothing is an important issue to them....

Just a suggestion for the last point Cookesland. Perhaps changing it to commercial laundry instead of doing a second ban:

4. “We’re sitting on a gold mine here, If you ban home washing of clothes then people will have to get someone else to do it!” says Lo Fat Laundry CEO Colin Jong-il. “Just think how powerful the economy will be. Of course, the number of damaged and lost items will reach massive levels but if you just set up a few charity shops no one will notice.”
