Proposal to Repeal Resolution #6 "End Slavery" (Not Pro-Slavery)

Neighbors and friends, please consider a proposal recently submitted for consideration by the Free Peoples of Ikkt.

It is our belief that Resolution #6 "End Slavery" should be repealed. Please do not fear that we are asking anyone to advocate slavery, as the original intent of the resolution was later covered more appropriately in other resolutions.

Again, we ask that you each please consider the proposal, and if the proposal meets approval, we would greatly appreciate your support in bringing this to the general assembly.

The easiest way to find the Proposal in its current form is via the following Link: Search Results: Slavery (http://www.nationstates.net/pin=7702477/page=display_nation/page=UN_proposal1/match=Slavery)

Thank you for your time and consideration.

An easier way would be if you had seen fit to post the text of your proposal here.

It is herein proposed that United Nations Resolution #6 be repealed for the following reasons:

1. The language of the resolution is phrased in an inappropriately biased tone, using propagandic generalizations in place of factual arguments. Furthermore, the tone of these arguments could be construed to violate Resolution #99 and #88, as those who choose to support a system of slavery could be classified as belonging to a "school of thought" or "political ideology".

2. The resolution only contains one mandate which directly impacts slavery (namely the fifth bullet item), which only provides assurance against the trade of individuals, and not the act of enslaving a person, or the owning of slaves.

3. The four other mandates are concerning adequate working conditions, and national freedoms discussed in other resolutions (namely resolutions #175, #146, and #94), and not concerning slavery.

4. The original intent of resolution 6 is more thoroughly covered by resolution #68, which both defines, and bans the trafficking in persons.

In conclusion: resolution #6 is inadequately composed to reflect the original intent of the resolution, overlaps many topics not relevant to the original intent of the resolution, is inappropriately worded, and is more adequately covered by other resolutions already in place.

Well, it's certainly the best written repeal for that resolution I've ever seen, and I would vote for it.

Anti-slavery legislation is fine as it stands. No to this proposition.

I'm a fairly staunch "repeals don't need a replacement" kind of guy, but with this one I'll be crowing, "Where's the replacement? Where's the replacement? Where's the replacement?'

On behalf of The Soviet Gathering, i second this motion.

This resolution, is in need of a huge reformation, but The gathering also urges the importance of passing another such resolution - in the improved form, without question - to one and for all eradicate the menance for slavery.
