I think I saw Pilot making these types of projections before, but speaking from experience (), they may not be so well received now.

C'mon, I may have missed the Golden Age by several months (or years, depending who you ask), but I do seem to remember being an innocent little n00b cowering in the cellar while Demon Lord Enigma and Powerhungry Chipmunks (Sp?) raged darkly above. It wasn't all sweetness and light!

Besides, sometimes intelligence precludes congeniality.

I'm tired of the negativity. It's time for the big guns. Fortunately Red Hot has returned from vacation and so ...

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o18/tzor/bouncefaerie111x171.gif Pilot, Pilot, he's our man. If he can't predict them no one can!

Although technically I see that not all the feeders have voted yet.

Although technically I see that not all the feeders have voted yet.

At a certain point, they became irrelevant to the final outcome. Even the feeders don't carry enough weight to swing the pendulum back the other way now.

True, but considering that people can change their votes, I am not sure of any possible "feeder" effect. If the feeders were to suddenly vote in one unified direction, how many people might see that effect and change their vote accordingly? I don't think it will happen in this case, but it could happen. The ability of votes to change and for feeders to throw down bug numbers in one vote does throw potential monkey wrenches into standard polling techniques and when they happen they can be fun to watch.

< OOC: Obviously, the projection was not to highlight the fact that the resolution was going to pass, but rather the percentages of support and opposition. >

Our delegation finds the predictions of the UNIA interesting and an added touch to participating here. They're certainly more interesting than snide comments and smirky sneers.

In his own special way, our Werepenguin buddy has highlighted a problem I'd been wondering about. Anecdotally, it seems there is already a "feeder" effect: people who wait to see how the feeders (or any of the other biggies) vote, and then vote accordingly.

So now you've given us the possibility of a UNIA effect: people waiting to see what you predict is going to happen to a resolution, and then going with what they assume to be the flow.

Not being a pollster, I haven't a clue how you'd chart such a thing, or whether it could be done at all; but I would guess, if you're going to, the time to start would be now, before we've had many votes with UNIA operating.

Not that I actually wanted to talk about this. I had hoped to get you started on the Good Old Days, Pilot. There are a few respectable folk around whose raucous early times I'd love to hear about.

(Damn you, Balthasar H. von Aschenbach and Red Hot. You really must try to overcome this bourgeois habit of sticking to the topic.)

The feeder regions, as in the Pacific regions you start in. They have a lot of nations, so their delegate votes hold a lot of power.

EDIT: Wow, my first time warp. Nope, doesn't make me feel special.

May we ask what the term "feeders" means in this context? We are unfamiliar with such usage, and wouldn't wish to cause offense by misusing the term.

The Feeders are the regions that your nation starts off in when it's created.

The Pacific, The North Pacific, The South Pacific, The West Pacific and The East Pacific. I believe that's right.

In this context, the case could be made for including the Rejected Realms and Lazarus as feeders too.

But nations aren't created in those regions. If you get kicked out of a region, your nation is sent to the Rejected Realms. If your nation ceases to exist and then is resurrected, it gets sent to Lazarus. The don't really feed the other regions. Not in the same way the the Feeder regions do. But, I suppose you could make a case for it.

But like the feeders, their delegates have a large number of endorsements which means their vote carries a lot of weight.

Right, I completely failed to look at it that way. So yes, you could include The Rejected Realms and Lazuras in there.

Lazarus has... what? 40 votes? I don't think they much matter for UN predictions. Gatesville is a larger voting block.

More than seven times as large, in fact.
