Hello, some of you might know from my post of Do we need to make an alternitive fuel source...well the Country of Haribet has come to form an opinion...YES! Haribet Belives that water power is the way to go...Water is the most abundent Substance on earth...mabye topping dirt! There is much water that we can use without harming the aquatic life of our life...a water powerd engine commite should be devolped by the U.N. In the purpose of devolping a Water powerd vehicle...the by product of water burning would be steam or water vapor...which would go up into the atmoshpere and come back down as rain. I want to know if you support this are not...if you dont please explain your opinion...if you do PLEASE endorse me..i could put this up for a vote!Thank you for your time

Welcome to the UN.

I'm afraid water doesn't burn.

This is a joke, right? As stated, water cannot burn, it is one of at least two products resulting from the burning of hydrocarbons in an oxygen atmosphere.

The water fuel cell is reportedly a perpetual motion machine. Such machines violate the known laws of physics. Claims of the development of such devices are considered pseudoscience by most scientists and so is not a viable solution to energy or pollution issues.

First, welcome to the NSUN. Second, calm down. You're sounding an awful like an alarmist. Third, as already pointed out, water doesn't burn (though I do know a few who would argue that fact) and last, the only people who can endorse you are the UN nations in your region.

One more point, try putting it in some kind of format. Look through the Passed UN Resolutions (http://forums3.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=357572)to get an idea of what format resolutions that are usually in.

I have three points for you. A water does not burn. B limiting energy to one source is a bad idea. C the environment can with stand ice ages and meteor impacts so I do not think anything we do will affect it.

While water itself does not burn, Hydrogen and oxygen are nearly perfect fuels.

The question of how we obtain Hydrogen and oxygen from the medium of water arises when we look at a "water powered" Car.

It has been pointed out, correctly, that it takes more electricity to seperate Hydrogen and oxygen than can be produced from burning the resulting mixture. So direct seperation at the engine is not practical. So we must seperate the Hydrogen at a central location using some other form of energy.

Solar power is a pipe dream, obviously, the ROI on solar panels is not even worth mentioning, and acres upon acres would be required to be built and maintained to provide hydrogen for one such vehicle.

Wind power offers a possible alternative, however the maintenence of the several modern wind generators that would be required for one facility, not to mention the initial production cost would be prohibitive and drop profits to the point where they were commercially non-viable.

The best source of power, on the basis of size, cost of production and maintenence, and minimal environmental impact would be a nuclear fission powere steam engine. A nuclear reactor. They are far cleaner than any other available source, and would produce more than adaquate power to fuel hundreds of these vehicles.

However thne we run into the next problem with a hydrogen powered car, as was discovered by BMW in their experiments. First, Gasseous Hydrogen will tend to excape any container that you put it in eventually. It just does not store well, and if you can imagine the fire hazard that would create, I imagine you would not care to drive a vehicle with a gasseous hydrogen tank.

So to simplify storage, you would want a storage system based on liquid hydrogen. It's safe, stores easily, and allows you your "water powered" car.

Or does it?

Liquid hydrogen requires roughly four times the storage space of gasoline to produce the same amount of power. This is assuming, of course, that you do not take into account the additional space needed to store the collong equipment and the insulation for the whole system. So, you would require a car the size of a cadilac to have the seating room of a yugo.

But, sacrifices have to be made, right?

But, what sacrifices are actually being made?

As you are running this engine in a vehicle, you are losing the virtually pure water into the air, no harm done, right?

What happens to the water cycle when millions of tons of watervapor are relaesed everyday into the atmosphere from millions of automobiles?

It would cause rain, wouldn't it?

Smog would be replaced by cumulonimbus clouds. Rain would wash off Los Angeles. The deseert would flood killing millions of jackrabbits, Actually, the enitre biosphere would likely be irreversably altered.

Kinda like what is happening with the new resergence of the flouescent lightbuld where we exchange one crazy idea of a cracked theory of an ecological disaster for a very real one in the future where we dump millions of tons of mercury into landfills.

So, would you like to procede with your proposal as stated, still?

While water itself does not burn, Hydrogen and oxygen are nearly perfect fuels.Peanut butter and pizza are both delicious foods. That doesn't mean that they taste good together. Water is not a fuel. Hydrogen can be and oxygen can be, but when combined, they are not.

Chlorine will kill you, unless you add it to sodium; then it becomes salt. The sum of the parts are very different from the parts themselves.

MEDIC! Someone call a medic! We have two cat girls who just fell into seizures!

Water is already the end result of combustion. It therefore cannot combust further. CO2 and H2O are both end products of combustion, not potential sources of combustion.

If you want to talk about alternate fuel sources, you have to consider what the basic fuel sources currently are. In effect almost all energy is nuclear. (There is a small exception for “geo-thermal” energy which is basically derived from the gravitational energy when the planet formed, but that is the only exception.) The bulk of our fuel supply comes from storage of the energy of a very large and wasteful fusion reactor called “the sun.”

The best form of energy would be in principle to avoid all middlemen and directly tap into the generated energy of the sun. Ironically at this time the most efficient solar energy collector are plants. Plants also process both CO2 and H2O. In theory you would want a plant that would capture more CO2 into the soil than would be released if burnt. It’s a tall order but switchgrass (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switchgrass) would do the trick.

I would recommend using that. (Actually I would prefer a Mr. Fusion in every car, but I would get heat from backwards nations, so I'm reccomending the switchgrass biofuel technology approach.)

I have just been informed that the cat girls just died. Please stop using bad science because that vile creature known as “god” kills a cat girl every time you use bad science in a UN resolution.
