Demilitarization of National Borders

The world has seen many wars; and most of these wars were caused by suspicion of one's international neighbors. The placement of larger numbers of military personnel has been the underlying cause for many of the worlds conflicts because as one sees their neighbor moving armies onto the border, paranoi seeps into international policy making. To combat this underlying cause in international military conflict, I propose the demilitarization of national borders around the world.

Category: International Security

Stength: Strong

Proposed by: Ambassador to the United Nations Nicholis Uhl, the Federation of Undbagarten

Military Regulation Act:
1) No nation may have more than two-thousand military personnel on of within fifteen miles of any border neighboring another country.
2) No military aircraft may fly through the demilitarized zone.

So long Border Patrols.

You should note that you do not have the luxury of branding in the "Proposed by" field. Also, how can this possibly be classified as International Security?

We do not agree with this proposal anyway, but we would like to point out something that produces rather a problem. If military aircraft are not allowed to fly through the demilitarised zone, and the demilitarised zone is ALL borders of the country, then it is impossible for military aircraft to leave a nation

No, seriously... you must realise what a catastrophically horrid idea this is, right?

And what if your entire nation is only 30 miles wide?

This is a nice idea. But history's roster of dead and conquered nations is littered with ones that had nice ideas. Altanar would oppose this.

Absolutely not. Never. The statement that "The placement of larger numbers of military personnel has been the underlying cause for many of the worlds conflicts" is completely untrue. While moving troops to borders has been the cause, at times, of heightened tensions, we can't think of a single case where it could be called the "underlying cause" of any war.

DMZ's might work where there is significant tensions between the parties involved, but when most nations get on fine with one another, it's not needed.

Secondly, 2000 members of the armed forces might be a lot, if nations have fantasy armies with giants. Most don't.
