Submitted: Repeal "Hydrogen Powered Vehicles"

After working with members of Wall Street, notably Leg-ends and 'members of wall street', my UN nation, Valcoma, has submitted the following proposal for the repeal of Hydrogen Powered Vehicles.

COMMENDS the good intentions of the original resolution in seeking to develop new sources of fuel for cars,

RECOGNISES that effort needs to be made to reduce dependency on non-renewable energy sources,

NOTES that many economically developing nations do not use polluting vehicles on a large scale,

OBSERVES that such nations are therefore unlikely to significantly contribute to air pollution through vehicle emissions,

FURTHERMORE NOTES that the development of hydrogen fuel cells is technically difficult and expensive,

OBSERVES that Resolution #18 requires economically developing nations to duplicate the effort made and expense incurred by nations that are in a much better technological position to conduct the research,

REASONS that such funds would be spent more effectively elsewhere on areas such as healthcare and education,

EMPHASIZING that automobile manufacturers are already required to contribute 1% of their profits towards the development of alternative fuels under Resolution #39, "Alternative Fuels", and that this would include hydrogen powered vehicles,

FURTHER EMPHASIZES that a comprehensive emmission reduction program covering all industries is mandated by UN Resolution #126, "Fossil Fuel Reduction Act",

CONCLUDES that the funding of expensive duplicate technologies by economically developing nations is illogical, unnecessary, and harmful to developing nations,

and REPEALS UN Resolution #18 Hydrogen Powered Vehicles

COMMENDS the good intentions of the original resolution in seeking to develop new sources of fuel for cars,

RECOGNISES that effort needs to be made to reduce dependency on non-renewable energy sources,

No major beef with these.

NOTES that many economically developing nations do not use polluting vehicles on a large scale,

It could be argued that economically developing nations are actually more likely to use vehicles that pollute a great deal more than vehicles used by more developed nations simply because they cannot afford to develop better methods. That said, they are generally likely to have fewer vehicles in total, so I can't really cause a huge stink about it.

OBSERVES that such nations are therefore unlikely to significantly contribute to air pollution through vehicle emissions,

Through vehicle emissions? Comparative with other nations, you might be right.

FURTHERMORE NOTES that the development of hydrogen fuel cells is technically difficult and expensive,

Good point.

OBSERVES that Resolution #18 requires economically developing nations to duplicate the effort made and expense incurred by nations that are in a much better technological position to conduct the research,

Well, kinda. It says that they have to put some effort towards it, but it never says how much. It is true, however, that they are forced to do research that other, more developed and technologically advanced, nations will be doing anyways.

REASONS that such funds would be spent more effectively elsewhere on areas such as healthcare and education,

Good call.

EMPHASIZING that automobile manufacturers are already required to contribute 1% of their profits towards the development of alternative fuels under Resolution #39, "Alternative Fuels", and that this would include hydrogen powered vehicles,

Awesome.

FURTHER EMPHASIZES that a comprehensive emmission reduction program covering all industries is mandated by UN Resolution #126, "Fossil Fuel Reduction Act",

Groovy.

CONCLUDES that the funding of expensive duplicate technologies by economically developing nations is illogical, unnecessary, and harmful to developing nations,

Bodacious.

and REPEALS UN Resolution #18 Hydrogen Powered Vehicles

APPROVED.

I have to agree with my delegate Kivisto here. Good work. Looks solid.

We wholeheartedly support this well-conceived effort to get that piece of dung posing as a resolution off the books.

Hydrogen Powered Vehicles is one of those nasty resolutions that manage to survive the best of repeals. Your's definitely looks good and you have my spport on it. But be prepared to face the wrath of the title reading fluffies.

Wha? No co-authored by ACCEL? Now what reason will I have to oppose this?;)

Erm yes you will have my vote.

Full support; I really hope this passes.

Thank you all for your kind words, we just need 11 more approvals so we can park this in the queue for the next few weeks...

Even once it's in the queue, since it's going to be there so long, I suggest monitoring its status to make sure it doesn't slip under quorum.

Status: Quorum Reached: In Queue!

We have Quorum!

Thank the lord. No more telegramming, although Leg-ends was as usual, amazing in the telegramming department.

Congrats on quorum! Like the good sheik says, though, keep an eye on it.

You, sir, can be quite funny at times. ;)

So aside from keeping a watch on the approvals to make sure it doesn't slip below, we need to work on how to get people to look beyond the fluffiness of the title... I'm glad we did the easy part first!

It should be OK now, it's 11 approvals over quorum and they always pick up drive-by approvals as time passes. Keep an eye on it, but I don't think you have to worry about it falling off quorum. Congratulations.

We fluffied the text of the resolution up as it is so hopefully it will receive a warmer reception at the general floor.

This proposal is far over and above quorum. I was glad to cast my approval and will argue vigorously in this proposal's defense when it comes to vote. HPV (now THERE's an ironic abbreviation, given that both things with those initials are things that need to be eradicated and defended against) has long withstood perfectly reasonable efforts to repeal it due to bad cases of "titleitis" within the voting community.

May the inoculation of good sense and good writing defend this repeal from titleitis and see it through to passage.

Finally...a Hydrogen repeal is at quorum. I was more than happy to approve this. I think I'm going to stop sitting around in Wall Street and get involved.

Please God, please make hyrdogen powered vehicles go away. I would agree with the Kivistonian (or whatever) representative, in saying that it is awesome, groovy, and bodacious; however, groovy is not a word in my dictionary (in fact everything from fundementals to horseraddish is missing), so I cannot.

God luck, and god speed.

Hydrogen powered vehicles will never go away. I mean the Hydrogen powered Hummer is just so cute, don't you think. Hopefully this hydrogen powered resolution will go away, or be stricken, or removed, and we don't have to waste our currencies on making these totally illogical devices.

I think I can safely remove my watch from it as it is now very far above quorum. Now let's just hope this passes.

I am very pleased with almost unanimous support this has received from members here. Thank you.
