UN Drug Laws Are Needed

A resolution to ban, legalize, or encourage recreational drugs.

Category: Recreational Drug Use

Decision: Outlaw

Proposed by: Vesikor

Description: It has come to vesikors attention that many countries in this world freely use, deal, and handle harmfal and fatal drugs. I do believe the United Nations is here to abolish such activities involving drugs

The following is a complete report on the advantages and disadvantages of U.N drug laws-

ADVANTAGES

The biggest problem of drugs is the addiction many expieience to them, followed by the deaths that occur from using them. With these laws, all U.N countries will enjoy a higher population because of lower to none drug deaths. This also includes the population that do not use such drugs, but still are subjected to them by users who take drugs that disperse in the air (ig, marajuana, smoking cocaine) and that are inhaled by the rest of the population.

DISADVANTAGES

Some countrie's economies depend on growing, handeling, and transporting drugs. With these laws, many nations economic stability will fall below average.

Fourtunatly, theres an alternative. If a country grows drugs, then most likely, the land is also adequate for farming (ig, wheat, potatoes) and textiles (ie, cotten, indigo) Providing an alternative source of finances. If a country transports drugs, the country can switch to a central trading hub, bringing goods from all over the world to be shipped to other locations.

Vesikor holds this issue in high hopes that the rest of the U.N will unite and save lives. Thank you.

I think this is the proposal in question.

The UN has already addressed drug laws in the UN Drug Act (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/UN_Drug_Act). It left the final decision on making drugs legal or illegal up to national governments.

Such a resolution would be a total infringement on our right, as a sovereign nation, to decide what laws and regulations we should have concerning drugs. Altanar would be completely opposed.

o... allright then.... but i do believe, if the u.n revotes, and this does get passed, then it will take over that law... i doubt that would happen though

It won't overtake the old resolution. To get yours passed, you would first have to repeal the old reso, to get it off the UN books, and then submit your replacement.

Take a look at the stickies at the top of this forum, and they will explain the way the UN works and what you need to do to get an idea to quorum and passed. The rules one will tell you about duplication and contradiction, which are both against the proposal rules.

Don't feel put out by the bad reception this idea has received. Drugs is a very touchy subject in the NSUN, and many people have strong views one way or the other. I think the main reason the UN Drug Act passed, while an earlier reso at vote to legalise drugs failed, was because it did leave the final decision to each nation and while urging and encouraging legalisation, didn't force anything.

Welcome to the UN. We'll cut you all the slack you need. We were all new at this once. Do what the representative of Waterana said. Go read the Rules for UN Proposals. Take a look at some of the Passed Resolutions. Then if you have an idea for a proposal, come post a draft here. See what people have to say. You'll run across some jerks who like to sneer at "n00bs", but you'll probably also get some suggestions and help. If you have questions, ask 'em.
