Repeal: Protect Historical Sites

Can someone put together a sensible repeal arguement for UN Resolution #15 "Protect Historical Sites"? I mean, it doesn't even define what a historical site is! Not to mention, some "historical sites" could be dangerous, like a radioactive energy plant that saved the revolution or whatever.

I just drummed this up...

The United Nations,

BELIEVING FULLY in the importance of the preservation of cultural and historical sites,

HOWEVER RECOGNIZING that the historical or cultural value of a certain area is best evaluated by the residents of that area,

ENTIRELY CONVINCED that important historical and cultural sites can therefore best be defined and protected by member nations themselves,

FURTHER NOTING that Resolution #15 “Protect Historical Sites” does not in any way protect historical sites or define what a historical site is, but instead states a general goal,

REALIZING that “Protect Historical Sites” is thereby entirely useless,

REPEALS United Nations Resolution #15 “Protect Historical Sites.”

I would only propose this if there are people willing to help with a telegram campaign, because I'm busy with ACCEL and this repeal would not be at the top of my list.

Sounds good to me.

Scrap that, I just remembered the region of Alpha Omega is in the midst of an advanced campaign to accomplish this. In other words, it would be a waste of effort if we tried to repeal it.

If you say so... I think?

I think we should preserve historical sites or else people wouldn't know the Nation's accomplisments and probably wouldn't honor their country as much.

Yes, I agree, but...

1. Protect Historical Sites does a really bad job of protecting historical sites anyway
2. This should be handled a at a national level

3. It forces nations to pour money into "protecting" historical sites
4. It doesn't tell how to protect historical sites, or define what historical sites are
5. It's practically a breach of national soveirgnty (sp?)

I don't think many people would know what UN Resolution #15 actually does in the first place. David6's repeal argument is a fine example. Granted this was written in early UN speak, a dialect of legal language few people speak today.

UNR #15 prevents construction of "new buildings" on "historical sites." The former is self explanitory, the latter, since not defined is left up to the state to define. So member states (this works really well with nations that have private property rights other wise it's a little silly) can decalre locations "historical sites" and force owners to not construct new buildings on it. And guess what? I think this even overrides the "Fair Use" of "Due Process" which was repealed anyway so there, since the goverment doesn't technically take over the land.

But how about this for an argument

OBSERVING that no one actually reads arguments;
NOTING that all early resolutions are poorly written;
SEEING that people don't like to keep old junk around;
HEREBY demolishes UNR #15 to make way for a more modern resolution.
