UN Corruption Resolution?

The Gupta Dynasty

I've never been really that active in the United Nations. Once in a while I vote on a resolution, I ask my delegate to vote one way or another sometimes, and so forth. (when I was delegate, however, I was a lot more active in the UN. That was a long time ago, sadly).

Anyway, I was going through the United Nations Passed Resolutions page and was surprised to find no real resolution dealing with government corruption. As this is a problem, and one that I would expect the United Nations to deal with, I was quite surprised. Is there any real reason or is there actually such a resolution and I couldn't find it?

Thus, I was wondering if it were possible to do a resolution limiting corruption as it is. I don't know if this is against game rules or whatever, but it seems a good idea.

(and yes, I've been playing NS for ages. I'm an RP'er mostly, however. Never gave the UN a try. That's why I'm asking you.)

I agree a resolution on such a subject could work well. The problem with dealing with government corruption is that it is governments that decide whether their nations are part of the UN or not. Excessively corrupt governments would be more likely to resign than institute any particular reforms. Corruption in general has to be fought bottom-up: by its very nature, it's something that top-down efforts are disinclined to address. The other issue might be that some people feel that corrupt governments are bearable, so long as they produce social reforms or so on. So, it is better to have a corrupt but non-oppressive government, than the other way round.

I think this is a topic the UN could address, but an appropriate definition of corruption would be vital as a starting point.
