Welcome to the elite ranks of UN diplomats, Ambassador! Before we collect your security deposit, give you the keys to your office (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=486600) (and unless you've made prior arrangements with UN Building Mgmt (www.nationstates.net/UN_Building_Mgmt), you're gonna be homeless), and subject you to a complete physical, body-cavity search, fingerprinting, blood tests, X-rays, cat-scan, retinal scan, MRI, urine analysis, digital rectal exam, severe audit, repeated floggings and routine torture, we kindly ask that you provide a few biographical details about yourself (and your staff, if applicable). Once you have completed the requisite documents, please deliver them to the personnel secretary on the fifth floor. She will look them over, inform you have filled them out incorrectly, snigger at you, mock your taste in clothing, then tell you she has nothing to do with approving these documents, anyway, and direct you to the Orientation Office in the 22nd floor. You will find your way up to said office and tell them Bernadette sent you. They will deny ever having heard of this Bernadette, make fun of you for being such a fucking n00b, and push you out the open door onto a moving luggage cart. The bellhop pushing the cart will ask you what the hell you're doing crushing Lady Cornwall's suitcases, and warn you to get off before he gets snippy about it. You will do so and and find yourself at the door to the Office for Helping Out and Redirecting Lost (and/or Totally Stupid) UN Diplomats and Staff. You'll enter and instantly trip over a pile of waiting Kennyites who are wondering why the heck the first floor is above the lobby, while a number of OHORLAOTSUNDAS staffers patiently try to explain the UNHQ floor plan to them. The morons still won't get it, and wonder if they can have some of the candy in the jar on the receptionist's desk. The staff will give up on them, turn to you, and tell you that the office for processing ambassador info is actually in Northwesteastsouthtimorialand, the next flight to which doesn't leave for another two weeks, but that you're more than welcome to wait with the Kennyites, and don't mind them, since they're occupied with a rubber band just found on the floor, and are currently trying to figure out how to shoot it across the room, and instead repeatedly hitting themselves in the eye. When you finally arrive in the terminal at Northwesteastsouthtimorialand International Airport, you will be abducted by militants having recently seized the capital from the ruling government; they will bind you, gag you, blindfold you, beat you to a bloody pulp, and take you to see their leader, who will instantly recognize you as a UN official, accuse you of being a spy for the gnomes, and order you to get your sorry butt on the first plane back to UN Headquarters, lest he execute you for espionage. You will do so, and eventually stumble back into the lobby of UNHQ; you'll present your papers to the receptionist and wearily ask her where the hell you're supposed to go to get them processed. She'll tell you she has no idea, but the gnomes might, and tell you to wait while she gets one. The surly gnome will come out to meet you and indignantly ask you why your nation hasn't changed its laws to come into compliance with UN resolutions yet; you will tell him you have no idea why, and he will charge you an insanely large late fee, and warn you not to let it happen again. Then he'll happen to notice your papers, and tell you you need to take them to the Central Processing Office on the 58th floor. You'll get in the elevator and notice it only goes up to 40, and once the doors open on the top floor, you'll be abducted by horrible mutants left over from the DLE era; they will turture you for hours before you're finally rescued by a squadron of elite Palentine Kamikazi Penguins. While transferring you to the rendezvous point, however, one of them will accidentally explode and send you flying right through the doors of an open elevator shaft, and you'll fall 35 stories onto the roof of the broken elevator unit, currently stuck on the fourth floor. You'll crawl out through the open doors above you to the fifth floor, where the personnel secretary will tell you she thought she'd sent you to see the Orientation people, and then suddenly remember that she is responsible for processing ambassador information documents, what was she thinking?, place a fat "APPROVED" stamp on them, shove them back at you, and tell you to go fuck yourself.

Background: Former Yeldan Admiral. Retired from the military at age 55 to enter a new career with the foreign ministry. After serving in various capacities, including deputy Foreign Minister, was appointed Yeldan Ambassador to the NSUN. Upon Yelda's withdrawl from the NSUN he was named Ambassador of Yeldan UN Mission. Holds degrees in Political Science and Yeldan Literature. Published Author and Poet.
Supports: Human Rights, Social Justice, International Security and the occasional Environmental proposal.
Does not support: Moral Decency, The Furtherment of Democracy, Global Disarmament or any proposal which would erode the power and influence of the Yeldan State.
Personality: Hæila Wythåefþ is the "nicer" of the two key officials in the Yeldan delegation. He tends to be diplomatic and has even been accused of having a kind and reasonable nature. He misses his family and wishes to retire from this post and finish his days working on his farm.

Background: Aüþgæþ Spøtyiú joined the CSS (Committee For State Security) at age 22 upon graduating college. He has worked in the Foreign Directorate, Internal Directorate and Diplomatic Directorate. He holds degrees in Foreign Language and Psychology and is fluent in several languages.
Supports: Whatever the CSS tells him to.

Background: After serving 6 years in the Yeldan military, Quynn entered university and earned a doctorate in political science. He also holds a masters degree in economics and has been instrumental in shaping Yeldan trade policy. Quynn is a career diplomat and has worked in the intelligence and trade directorates of the foreign ministry before being appointed Foreign Minister. Speaks Yeldan and English.
*An important side note on the background of Quynn Olver* Quynn is a descendant of the former Yeldan royal family, the first such individual to attain high government office in over 200 years.
Supports: Well written proposals which are in agreement with Yeldan policy.
Does not support: Any poorly written proposal and any proposal which is not in agreement with Yeldan policy.
Personality: Professional, usually diplomatic, though sometimes given to emotional and profane outbursts when angered.



[OOC footnote] I think it's important to have a grasp on what characters look and "act" like. Since I am a lazy person and am not inclined to writing complex physical and psychological profiles of these characters I will resort to comparing them to movie actors.

He finally became a Lord High Admiral responsible for his home region, and held that command until he was 130. Leaving the fleet, he entered the employ of the Sultanshah of Osmana at the sovereign's request, where he modernized the regional defense forces and turned the stagnant Osmanan region into a powerful economic producer, as well as serving as the Commandant of the Sultanic Fleet. It is with sad hearts that the Genoshan Delegation announces the untimely passing of the Permanent Representative to the United Nations, The Honorable Wesley Blade.


Brigadier Blade was traveling abroad, on his routine summer holiday, when his pleasure boat capsized off-shore the island of Kearnts, in the outer territories of the Federation. Despite being a strong swimmer, the whirlpools in the waters surrounding Kearnts are known for even drowning full-grown orcas, and the brigadier drowned. The body was recovered this morning by a submarine of the Royal Genoshan Navy, the HSMS Dauntless.

He is survived by his wife, Marissa, his two sons Wesley Junior and Horatio, his daughters Jessica, Carmen, and Delphine, and his grandchildren.

His Serene Majesty, King Michael Aurelius, ordered all national flags and royal standards to fly at half-mast for 30 days, a typical mourning period.

Before he was nominated to the post of Permanent UN Representative, Brigadier Wesley Campbell Blade was formerly Chief of Station, Anvard Palace. The post, being more diplomatic than military, required the loquacity of a politician, the professionalism of a Marine, and the stubbornness of a jackass. The Chief of Station was to be the first person who met all foreign dignitaries at the Palace of the Sovereign, and be a tour guide of sorts, entertaining guests before they could receive an audience with the Sovereign. It was at that post that the brigadier established his place in the mind of the Sovereign. When the Federation applied to the UN, Dr. Blade's name was entered as the first Genoshan Representative. Prior to being Chief of Station, he was in command of the 15th Brigade, 6th Marine Division, 2nd Royal Legion. An artilleryman by choice and assigned occupation, the brigadier served in many battles, including the Geno-Mac wars against neighboring nation Mac the Magnificent, a war in which the latter nation was obliterated. His decorations include the Triton Cross, Legion of Merit, Navy Commendation Medal, Longevity Ribbon, numerous other unit-level citations, and an appointment to the Meritorious Order of the Crane, where he held the rank of Knight Commander.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry has nominated Deputy Representative to the United Nations Marcus Diegaus III, to the post of Permanent Representative of His Serene Majesty and HSM's Government to the United Nations. It will go before the Genoshan Parliament and, if voted in, be approved by the Sovereign. Should he be voted in, Mr. Diegaus will be granted the Ambassadorial rank of Senior Ambassador and be retroactively promoted to Brigadier of Royal Marines.

The bad news (we think) is that our ambassador for the past year, Sammy Faisano, has resigned in order to take up another position as ambassador to Ardchoille (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12980831&postcount=208). The good news (?), however, is that due to the fact that Ardchoillean government officials tend to devote an inordinate amount of their time to the United Nations Strangers' Bar, Mr. Faisano will naturally be spending much of his time there as well, so he will still be a presence within these halls. He will continue to serve our UN mission as adviser. And even more "good" news: Cdr. Jenny Chiang (ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Jenny_Chiang), our deputy national security adviser and for the last year and a half our security attaché to the United Nations, has agreed to step in as acting ambassador until such time that a suitable envoy can be dispatched to these halls permanently. We assure you such matters will be attended to in all due haste, and in the meantime we hope Cdr. Wermus Grakh is a general who wasn't very good at being a general, and was thusly assigned as a military attache to the UN Delegation. Of course, since Snefaldia hasn't had a war since 1835 there's been little need for a large number of military men, so Grakh was quite happy to be taken off inactive half-pay and put to work advising the Snefaldian ambassadors on a subject they could care less about.

A gruff, gung-ho exterior hides a soft and warm personality, which hides a hard-drinking and belligerent core. Grakh loves his children dearly, and wants his sons to attend Aatem Nal. His daughter Oliane is already working for the regional government of Sring Issa in Isaardlang.

The Mother is a soft person at heart, really. As a young girl her fiancee disappeared and left her heart broken, and she joined the Snefaldian Catholic Church to salve her soul. Background: Having spent his childhood trying to stay on his dad's good side, Jimmy is a natural sycophant, but his new role as cabinet secretary gives him a chance to become his own man. He is lovingly faithful to his wife, despite rumors of her infidelity. In private, Jimmy tries to be friendly and easy-going, though a lifetime of sucking up to people has made him remarkably pent-up. He has a pretty nasty temper when he can't hold it in.

Current Borderlands of Delmarva Jersey Temporary Interim Special Ambassador (TISA or TIS Ambassador)

BDmvJ TISA: The post of Temporary Interim Special Ambassador is assigned to a random government employee upon the death or resignation of the preceding ambassador (usually a Elected High Gubernatorial Ambassador or another TISA). TISAs have the full powers of a EHGA, but they tend to be somewhat incompetent and ignorant and care less about their post/what the D-Jerseyans want them to do in their post, since they will have it for less time.

They can be fired at the slightest provocation, and have no choice but to take the post when offered it, on pain of either pain, death, unending tickling, imprisonment, or bribery-until-job-is-accepted. They are assigned directly by the Commander of the Borderlands or by the Secretary of Talking to Furriners/SecState.

Evoinia was rapidly betraying her priniciples, largely because of the dictatorial leadership of the Commander and Pericleon. Meanwhile, Maximillian had by this time become a Professor at the University of Evoinia and taught his students what he felt was the true docterine of the revolution and insighted much wrath from the Commander and his own father, at one time being imprisoned.

Once his sentence was finished, Maximillan (with the aid of his students) and the Vice-Commisar Telgin stormed the capital. The students were able to topple the Government and proclaimed the country to be under the leadership of the Council of Commisars (In fact, Maximillain killed his own father along with the Commander).

Soon after this, Vice-Commisar Telgin died and the position was given to Maximillian. As well at this time the High Commisar began to appear less and less within the nation, some asssuming he had died as well.

Maximillan then established the People's Grand Soviet, making himself the Speaker of the Soviet (a non-voting position used to maintain order) for 10 year period, which was later extended to life.

As such, the Commisars are the Executive Body, while the Soviet is the legislative.

Some people have questioned the further centralizing under his office, but note that his term as Vice-Commisar is due to run out in afew years.

Attracting gradual notice as a hard worker, competant assistant, and quick study in matters of governance, Seigfried slowly moved up in the bureaucratic quagmire of the Colonial Ministry. At the peak of his Togovian career, he became aide the Viceroy himself. Seigfried, however, had become disillusioned with the treatment of the local Catawaban natives, the Taung, and the Togovian government in general.

When approached by Catawaban rebels, Seigfried acted as unequaled source for intelligence from deep within the Viceroy's confidence. He also took it upon himself to organize other intelligence cells within the Colonial authority including the military to funnel information, aid, and supplies to the rebels. For his efforts, he was given the rank of Colonel in the fledgling Catawaban Intelligence Service. Seigfried maintained his cover until rebel forces, led by Errant Mira'ad, entered the captial of Graceland. He abandoned his cover in a failed attempt to capture or subdue the Viceroy. Even though the Viceroy escaped back to Togovia, Seigfried gained much respect for his heroic efforts.

After the end of hostilities, Seigfried had decided to retire when he was called back to service. Errant Mira'ad had just assumed executive power as Alpha Miraade and wanted Seigfried for his diplomatic corp. Seigfried was appointed by Errant and easily approved by the Catawaba Congress for his extensive diplomatic expierence and lauded defense of the country.

Time to get around to that update. Also, consider Madison's wiki page retconned, at least partially; I never used any of that stuff in RP anyway.

First, in light of domestic matters in Quintessence of Dust, and also in reaction to the changes at the UN/WA, there have been some changes.

James Dwight has stood down as Secretary of State to concentrate on his campaign for the Presidency in 2008, after current President Adolf Romsfelt's decision not to contest the election.

George Madison has been confirmed as the new Secretary of State, meaning he returns home to Highmark (but will still wield influence, as noted next.) The Department of UN Affairs is abolished, and jurisdiction will return to the State Department.

The new WA Ambassador is Ethel "Kneecracker" Typhoid. Samantha Benson and Dr. Luc Monsettier are to be retained in their present roles.

Background: An accomplished classical cellist who has played with the Quintessential National Symphonic Orchestra, an operatic baritone who has played Don Giovanni, and a renowned author of poetry, prose and children's literature, Ethel "Kneecracker" Typhoid is perhaps best known for his 'I HAVE NEVER FAILED TO BLEED!' series of paintings, among the most famous work of any Quodite artist. Long prominent in international cultural affairs, his appointment as ambassador came as something of a surprise, as he was seen of something a lightweight on policy matters. During confirmation hearings, however, he revealed an astute knowledge of international political economy, military technology, environmental science, and the plight of indigenous peoples. He has listed his aims as protecting human rights worldwide, saving the rainforest, and directing the WA Ambassador corps in a daring production of his new comic play, 'SHIT ON MY FACE AND SUCK MY DEATH', in which a plucky young philosophy student spars with her curmudgeonly but well-intentioned professor.

She was taken under the wing of Prime Minister Erica Ornan, whose patronage she continues to enjoy.

With two large changes coming closely after each other- both the first Snefaldian Parliamentary Elections and the demise of the United Nations, the Foreign Ministry felt it necessary to adjust the delegation for a new term in the World Assembly.

Ambassador Plenipotens Harmalan Shandreð has decided to retire from active duty, citing the new frenetic atmosphere of the World Assembly and his age as preventing him from "fulfilling the duties I swore to uphold to the utmost of my ability. It's time for a younger Snefaldian to represent their country."

Raphaël Sondrásái, current First Secretary and Charge d'Affaires, has been reassigned as Ambassador to Brutland & Norden. Dr. Ramás-an-Tås is also retiring.

Foreign Minister Ren Dirh has dispatched a new ambassador to serve as Snefaldia's representative in the World Assembly.

Politics: Personal politics are generally progressive, is a card-carrying member of the Liberal Democratic Party and supported the Progressive-Lib Dem alliance in the Assembly of Deputies. Promised to represent the views of the people of Snefaldia in the World Assembly.

Family: Unmarried, two younger brothers and a nephew

Education: BA in Political Science at the University of the Republic of Havensky, Masters in International Relations at the University of Texas at NewAustin, currently undergoing doctorate work at the University of the Republic.

Employment: Served as an airship crewmen in the Airship Armada. (All Havensky males spend two years in the service.) After graduating, Windcharmer worked in the State Department.

Background: Havensky did not see a need for a UN office as the regional government has a very active UN Secretary. Windcharmer was finally able to convince the Senate to allocate funds for a UN office. However, the office turned out to be an airship yacht (in order to save funds.) Upon arriving , Windcharmer has discovered the change over and is now ordering new stationary.

Politics: Leans libertarian. Like most Havensky residents Windcharmer holds civil and political rights sacred and will always advocate to increase them. Like many Texans, he's a firm supporter of national sovereignty.

Responsibilities: Christopher Windcharmer is the only person staffing Havensky's WA operations. So, his responsibilities include everything.

Other Notes: Like most Havensky residents, Windcharmer is perfectly at home in his airship. He is also a decent cook, having picked up several good Tex-Mex recipes while getting his Masters in NewAustin.

Responsibilities at the WA Office: Currently, Mr. Chauncey is responsible for everything but the most menial tasks that the nation's WA delegation would be expected to fulfill. Mr. Chauncey has appealed to the Upper Diet to allow for the creation of paid positions that would answer to the UN Ambassador, but the legislature considers the matter a low-priority issue.

Personal Biography: At first glance, Mr. Chauncey appears to be just another stuffy old aristrocrat...which he is, to be sure. But behind his pretentious prolixity and his pomposity is a man who is committed to the promotion of universal ideals. [More to come]

Politics: By the standards of Cartographic Boxes, Mr. Chauncey sees himself as a sensible centrist; and he owes his job to this, as the current constitutional setup of the nation's political system makes it difficult for ideologues of any stripe to secure the Ambassadorship. By the standards of the international community, however, Mr. Chauncey may appear more like a liberally-minded libertarian. His personal politics, however, play little influence in his work at the WA; he must consult with the Executive Council on all significant matters, and in practice Mr. Chauncey tends to be mindful to issues of sovereignty.

Responsibilities at the WA Office: Candi busies herself mainly with menial tasks; she enjoys licking mail envelopes, amongst other things. Occasionally, however, she corresponds on Mr. Chauncey's behalf when he cannot deign to do so himself.

Personal Biography: A former sorority girl and college drop-out, Candi is actually a little more intelligent than her ineloquent "umms" and her penchant for everything pink would suggest. How she found herself in Mr. Chauncey's employ is officially unknown, although the presses have advanced a number of theories since Mr. Chauncey secured his appointment to the Ambassadorship.

Politics: Whoever's the cutest.

Now, with that out of the way, since this thread is just crammed with a bunch of retconned UN business, I think I'll leave this one as a reference and just start a new one. This will give old nations a chance to update, and give me a chance to get rid of all those annoying nations who post once, in this thread, and are never heard from again.

Links to recent posts will be carried over to the new list (if for nothing else, so Quod and Snef don't have to bother with posting twice), as well as entries from currently active nations, and CTE/inactive nations who have special historic value.

The wiki question will have to be resolved later, when NSwiki is finally back up. Till then, no wiki links will be used.
