SUBMITTED: Repeal "Individual Working Freedoms" (Resolution #175) [Merged]

THE UNITED NATIONS,

SEEKING to protect the rights of individual workers,

AWARE that monopsonistic and oligopsonistic labour markets tend to create circumstances in which workers are exploited despite apparently voluntary agreements between employees and corporations,

CONCERNED that the fourth operative clause of Resolution #175 qualifies the power of national governments to regulate labour markets with a restriction upon interference with employment contracts that are technically voluntary,

ALARMED that Resolution #175 prevents laws against corporate abuses in which unjust market conditions cause workers to waive their rights,

DECIDES to repeal Resolution #175.

Repeal efforts initiated immediately after passage of a measure never succeed. Your best bet is to wait a while before making your attempt.

monopsonistic and oligopsonistic
OOC: Resolutions should be written using terms that are easily understandable. Most people won't have a clue what these two words mean.

Ahem, I believe you mean rarely succeed.

And those two only succeeded because they had obvious glaring flaws that were apparent from the moment they came to vote, and which were easily relatable to the "general public." FFRA and Patients Rights Act were also riddled with major flaws, but early attempts to repeal both did not work.

Well I wrote the resolution, and I don't understand a word of the repeal...so you might want to translate it into English for the voters.

For the record, I'll probably oppose a repeal, but not too much. I think IWF could have been better...and I think a repeal will make voters sick of the subject, thus additionally helping stave off replacements for 40HWW.

Repeal "Individual Working Freedoms"
A proposal to repeal a previously passed resolution

Category: Repeal
Resolution: #175
Proposed by: Peace-Loving States

Description: UN Resolution #175: Individual Working Freedoms (Category: Advancement of Industry; Area of Effect: Labor Deregulation) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

Argument: THE UNITED NATIONS,

SEEKING to protect the rights of individual workers,

AWARE that some labour markets lack a sufficiently large number of employers such that workers may not be able to choose employment elsewhere when a particular employer makes unreasonable demands,

UNDERSTANDING that monopsonistic and oligopsonistic labour markets tend to create circumstances in which workers are exploited despite apparently voluntary agreements between employees and corporations,

CONCERNED that the fourth operative clause of the "Individual Working Freedoms" resolution qualifies the power of national governments to regulate labour markets with a prohibition upon interference with employment contracts that are technically voluntary,

REGRETTING that the "Individual Working Freedoms" resolution prevents laws against corporate abuses in which unjust market conditions cause workers to waive their rights,

DECIDES to repeal "Individual Working Freedoms" (Resolution #175) of 9 September 2006.

Approvals: 0

Status: Lacking Support (requires 121 more approvals)

Voting Ends: Fri Sep 15 2006

Oh, yeah. This is gonna go far.

IWF forbids government regulation of contracts? I never knew that!

After having read "Individual Working Freedoms" I do not believe I would be in support of this repeal. My nation fears it's repeal could lead to a possible replacement of 40 Hour Workweek which we do not support either.

There appear to be other resolutions more worthy of a repeal if you're into all that, and I believe it would be a waste of this organization's time to rehash all of this.

How does he keep getting weapons in here?

I'll lend some support to the repeal, on general principle.

Does anyone currently plan to write some form of replacement for the 80 hour workweek?

The only place you can't take weapons is the Stranger's Bar, believe me back when my office was down in the basement I use to pack a gunblade in case I had to defend myself from the mutants that reside down there.

Does anyone currently plan to write some form of replacement for the 80 hour workweek?

Not to my knowledge, but then again someone could be drafting one and I just don't know about it.

Well technically you can bring weapons into the Stranger's bar, only strange things happen to then. (That's why it's called the Stranger's bar!)

Why just the other week my Prime Minister, the Master, took his tissue compression eliminator into the bar. He didn't even use it and it turned into a Hello Kitty Vibrator. (I still blame that stupid shrine for that.) Anyway Rouge Red-Brown loved it and he gave it to her as a gift. I hope it didn't revert back to a tissue compression eliminator seeing that she is now the leader of the Anti-Human party in the Tourist Eating Land of Retired WerePenguins.

Wolfgang stands, but says nothing. He calmly raises his left arm, his own hidden gun extending from it. He turns about and sprays the entire room with Altoid mints.

Sitting down, he comments, "A repeal of 175, quite frankly, stinks."

(LOL, I made myself laugh)

Enrique grabs a mint, jumps up, and calls out, "I agree with the representative from the Wolf Guardians. And thanks for the mint!"

Both Wolfgang, and his unseen mystical "author" giggle for five minutes at the scene created in the room, as well as his silly pun.

Collecting himself, Wolfgang makes another point, "Furthermore, it's likely far too soon for a repeal to go through. The ReadNothings will be wary of it, having some barest hint of a memory that they just voted the original through, or else they'll just see the word 'repeal' and vote based upon that word's presence. Those who actually bother to read the thing, but put no more effort into it than that, (the AtLeastReadEverythings) will be put off by words three and five of line three. For the IActuallyGiveADamns, you might have a shot, though I, personally, would vote against. For future reference, you should post things here and gather information first, before submitting it. That would at least resolve the problems with the AtLeastReadEverythings and their probable apathy towards looking up the words monopsonistic and oligopsonistic. This is part of why we have debates. And you'd all better appreciate those mints, because I meant to shoot up the place. I had forgotten that the bloody gadget at the Bar changed my ammo, though." He resumes giggling almost uncontrollably for another five minutes.

Monopsony is to monopoly what buyer is to seller, right?

I'm beginning to understand why we needed a continuity of government resolution. The price of good quality clones has been spiking recently.

Fortunately the quality has also gone up, minus a few quirks... recent models have shown tendency toward obsession.
