DRAFT: Basic Shelter Solidarity Act

All United Planets
07-07-2006, 18:27
Category: Social Justice
Strength: Significant

RECOGNIZING that homeless people deserve government support for basic housing,

ACKNOWLEDGING that the issue of homeless people should be nullified with immediate government support,

UNDERSTANDING the meaning of moral values to fuel solidarity and compassion for the socially weak,

The United Nations HEREBY:

ENFORCE the establishment of standardized minimum level life qualities for homeless people,

[including all citizens living below the minimum life quality limit]

I am still working on the bottom part but would appreciate the community's input in the meantime.

Okay, all though I like the idea, this is pretty impractical, and will never pass. First off, there are alot of poor nations out there that couldn't afford to pay for housing. Secondly, enforcing legislation on government subsidized housing is a little bit low on the list of stuff the UN should deal with. Thirdly and finally, government subsidized housing makes no sense for nations with no houses, or something else like that. (Iffy, but notworthy in this crazy world).

Of course, if you wish to persue this, I would highly recommend you define "homeless", as well as find a better term for homless. Like "unsheltered".

Agreed. The UN does not even say people need to be fed let alone given shelter.

Well, All United Planets got booted and banned, so could someone lock this thread?

In Gwenstefani, the homeless are homeless by choice. We provide a range of temporary homeless shelters and offer assistance in helping them find jobs and permanent accommodation of their own. If these people refuse to take us up on this help, for whatever reason, we do not feel that the UN should force us to provide them with homes.

Obviously there may be exceptions, but these would be referred to our social services system.

First off, there are alot of poor nations out there that couldn't afford to pay for housing. You could incorporate legislation to recognise this, such as "OBLIGES member states to take steps, individually and through international assistance and co-operation, to the maximum of its available resources, with a long term objective of achieving <insert objective here>"

then: "REMINDS member states that they have a ongoing duty to progress as effectively as possible towards <insert objective here>;"

Perhaps something in the preamble as well: "MINDFUL that limitations of resources make these aspirations difficult or impossible in the short and medium term;"

Booted and banned from what? The nation is a UN member with 2 or more endorsements. He's still in his home region - never moved. He hasn't been forumbanned on the strength of his single post.

If you meant the proposal expired or was removed, that doesn't invalidate the topic. No action taken.

OFFICIAL MESSAGE
The Dark Empire of Shazbotdom has had a system like this in effect for several years. We do believe though that you cannot force something like this on member nations because it should be considered as a National Soverignty issue.

I'd swear the UN Events listed All United Planets as being booted, then ceasing to exist cause he helped draft, and endoresed this wierd child rape proposal. Check the stupid proposals thread.

First, Fris did the booting. He knows.

Second, it was United Planet Earth that was kickbanned, not All United Planets, though I see how you would make the mistake. They both have three words in the name. (Do do, TSH!)
