I submitted this proposal - and would want your feedback on this.

Penalising Armed Aggression

Category: International Security
Strength: Significant
Proposed by: Kolkata

Description: We propose that any unilateral armed aggression by a nation [or a group of nations] on another sovereign nation will result in automatic sanctions and a suspension of all trading relationships with all UN Member nations.

We further propose that the UNITED NATIONS will deploy a peacekeeping force to repel such aggression, if possible, and the aggressor nation will be liable to pay all costs of such peacekeeping operation, as well as the costs of rebuilding the nation against whom such aggression takes place.

Hmmmm....I don't have an opinion on this either way. Wars can be legitimate on occassion, and secondly armed agression by a group of nations is, by it's very nature, not a unilateral action. We further propose that the UNITED NATIONS will deploy a peacekeeping force to repel such aggression, if possible, and the aggressor nation will be liable to pay all costs of such peacekeeping operation, as well as the costs of rebuilding the nation against whom such aggression takes place.Sadly, this is illegal, the UN has no army, and cannot raise one.

Welcome to the UN though, and hopefully you'll stick around.

OOC:
Indeed welcome! IC’ly Hirota has covered many of the points I had and from someone who was new before I’d like to give a little tip that might aid you on the way. Stickied above on this forum are some threads, which I found ever so useful in the beginning. They cover everything from rules, how to write proposals and some general information, well worth a read.

Finally, I look forward to seeing you around more.

OOC: Two wars in the past century stick out as being uncovered by this resolution:

-WWII
-Kuwait

The reason I list both is because they both have one important characteristic: an unallied nation was invaded, so multiple nations attacked the aggressor. However, this is different from a defensive action because they were not attacked themselves nor are they defending an ally. Yet, these very same actions would be condemned by the International Community while the International Community would get its hands tied. Yes, this is somewhat covered by the second clause which says we'll dump a load of peacekeepers in, but peacekeepers are built along the entire framework of "do not engage unless engaged". If they are never fired upon, they can't do jack squat.

IC: One questions how well a peace keeping effort would work when there is no peace to keep.

Without defining what you mean by "unilateral", and why it's so bad, you're going to have a tough time convincing me of this.
