Why should anyone join the UN?

Hi...I'm new here...looks like a nice place I may be able to vent some political frustration ;)
But my question is as stated in the subject line...I've looked over the resolutions for the past 6 months and I didnt see a single resolution that failed to pass. Doesnt this just restrict your nations allowing the non-UN states a free ride? Or is the UN like the rl NATO, where an attack on one is an attack on all?

You haven't seen a resolution that failed to pass? You must have missed the Recreational Drug Legalization vote, the Remittances and Tiny Deposits vote, the Anti-Terror vote, the Biological Sapients vote, the Forced Banishment vote, the vote on any one of my repeals before Feb. 2006 ...
Failed resolutions are not added to the list of UN Resolutions, but they are added to the wiki (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/UN_Timeline). Other than that, I don't know what the heck you're trying to argue here.

No need to apologize. The same bit of confusion has tripped up a number of newcomers. Exploring the NSWiki UN section from the link the distinguished (er... ?) representative from Omigodtheykilledkenny gave you is a good way to see what the NSUN is all about.
Hope you decide to join.

First of all, you might fine this link useful. It's a practical guide to the NSUN. It does go into depth about some of the reasons people join the UN as well.

It's true that being outside of the UN means you are effectively exempt from resolutions which affect the UN. This can be beneficial if you don't want to be affected by the UN. However, it also means you miss out on a big part of the game. Not only is it the whole resolution writing and submitting thing, but region invading and defending, and a few other things I can't think of I'm sure.Or is the UN like the rl NATO, where an attack on one is an attack on all?If a resolution was passed that ensured member states had to help fellow member states in conflict, then it would. However, at present it is not.
I like to think of the NSUN akin to the RL EU, but that is a discussion for another time.
