recently, some of you may have seen my new proposal, "destroy the United Nations". this was an honest idea, where i stated,

"I SAY WE GET RID OF THIS DUMP ONCE AND FOR ALL!!! WHO'S COMING WITH ME??!!"

hours later i was ejected from the United Nations, and sent a telegram stating:

Just you. UN membership revoked."

i would like to know how others feel about this. As John Locke once thought, "when a government does not meet the needs of its citizens, the people have the right to revolt or change that government."

Dude, it's simple, If you don't want to play by UN rules, don't be a UN member.
I am sure the admins agree fully to your right to say whatever the hell you want, so long as you can back up your talk. in all my time here, I've only seen one incident that could be considered admin impingement on free speech, and even that was in accordance with the published rules of the game, and quite leagal under the laws of the UK(which is, by the way where the servers running the game are.)

There are a set of rules that exist. Anyone who bothers to look can discover them. In fact, they're sitting right at the top of this board. Amongst them is this little important gem:

Game Mechanics violations are attempts to change how the UN works. Generally, these are Proposals that should be threads in Technical. Anything that requires and adjustment to how the game does things, or requires a change of code falls into this category. Requiring "proper" spelling, adjusting the number of votes needed for queue, creating a universal UN currency, and forming a "secondary UN" are all examples of this. Another example of this is forbidding UN action at a future point in time -- you can't make your Resolution "Repeal-proof" or prohibit types of legislation.

Your proposal was a game mechanics violation. Therefore, it was deleted. If your proposal was tongue in cheek, well, we have rules about joke resolutions.

If this was your first offense, you may have grounds to possibly get the ejection from the UN overturned. The mods merely fufilled your wish to leave the junk heap. If you want that dealt with, we can move on to that.

Freedom of speech does not equate to freedom to post whatever proposal you want. You can say whatever you want on these forums so long as it's respectful (to summarize the 20 rules). You can post a draft to the most ridiculous or ludicrous proposals right here if you want. However, you don't have freedom of speech on the submission list. You can post about any topic, so long as it falls within the rules that the moderators have laid out. Freedom of speech does not exist on the proposal list. Don't try to stand behind it.

Nationstates is owned by Max.
These Forums are owned by Jolt.

Both are privately owned and operated.

Freedom of Speech doens't apply on either of them.

So please don't complain about your stuff being deleted and you getting botted out of the UN.

This has been a public service announcment from Shazbotdom.

If you'd have read the NS FAQ ("Etiquette") you'd have known that the God of NationStates, Max Barry, has answered you about "free speech", like this:
It's free speech, so I can post whatever I like here, right?

Ahahahaha! Hahaha! Free speech! No, it's not. I run this web site, see, so you have to play by my rules. It's like my own Father Knows Best state.

The question is in bold, the official answer is plain text. Free speech isn't absolute. Just like in RL I guess.

And although I can't remember where I saw it, I think I read an explanation that since the UN is part of the game's code, you can't try to get rid of it. A Mod could explain it all properly if you ask nicely.

I can't see how you can expect the Mods to let it slide when you try to undermine the basis of the game. I won't even ask why you were in the UN if you hate it so much. The best you can say for yourself is that you didn't bother to understand the game before you started playing. A bit like signing up to play cricket and then campaigning to have the stumps outlawed.

Until you can prove someone was booted with you, I will have to take "Just you" as a factual statement.

i would like to know how others feel about this.

Strangely aroused, actually. Thanks for asking!

As John Locke once thought, "when a government does not meet the needs of its citizens, the people have the right to revolt or change that government."

Wow, are you a mind reader as well? We shall miss you.

Nah. We are busy enough fighting silly proposals. And we are losing.

Learn the game mechanics, learn the rules. You can't fight the restrictions imposed by the game code and win.
