Best 2005 Resolution (Final Survey)
After conducting a series of 5 polls, please choose the single 2005 resolution that you feel was the most significant or interesting resolution of 2005. This does not mean you voted in favour of the resolution, but that you liked the resolution and way others reacted to it.
The full text of the resolutions can be viewed on NSWiki:
*Diplomatic Immunity (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Diplomatic_Immunity)

205 in the year of our Mike? ;)
Yeah, should a mod see this, a title change would be great ... though I remember polls causing Frisbeeteria some problems in the past.

How can you do a "best 205 resolution(s)" list if you don't have 205 resolutions yet? :p

I remember polls causing Frisbeeteria some problems in the past.Polls can cause some wonkiness, but title changes are stunningly easy with the current version of vB.
Go to index. Double-click next to thread title. Change thread title. Hit enter. Don't even need to load the thread.

Cool. :) I'll find some other thread to celebrate 205 ItYooM.
Hit a number of the feeders up, so we'll see if this poll gets some replies.

I'd vote for MicroCredit, but it was toss-up between that one and Nuclear Armaments, and since my nation is batshit insane about weapons and defense, it was NA by a hair.

'Repeal "Promotion of Solar Panels"', because PSP was so utterly awful...

Firstly, I'm proud that there are 3 resolutions from the International Democratic Union in this shortlist. That proves that our aim for a quality UN is working. With two of my own resolutions, I'm extremely proud of myself, too ;)
It was a difficult choice for me to make. The SIWA was a difficult resolution to get passed rather soon after a repeal (and if I remember correctly, the first resolution to replace a repealed resolution), but compared to the other resolutions, it's not the best-written. Diplomatic Immunity is certainly one of the most UN-y resolutions, dealing with diplomacy and international liaisons in almost its purest form. Nevertheless, I have voted for my own Natural Disaster Act, because it deals with international matter, has reached a good level of abstractedness whilst remaining practical. It has a good mixture of doing and suggesting. And it has my name on it.

I voted for the Tsunami Warning System, as it was one of the first public collaborations on a resolution.
Without a doubt, the ten resolutions listed in this survey are *all* significant, and a note that they made it this far should be added to their NSWiki summaries (something I plan to do when this poll is over).
Diplomatic Immunity was not only exceptionally well written, but it is a redraft of a failed resolution! :o I've always really been impressed when resolution authors take a failed resolution and improve it.
The Sex Worker Industry Act *was* the first resolution to replace a repealed resolution, and also represents a quick response to the substantive debate from a repeal ... it was instrumental in setting an example that repeal debates could include discussions on what acceptable provisions of the repealed resolution were, streamlining the way to some sort of consensus or replacement. It too was good.
Many of us can remember when repeals were added in 2004, that a few players were claiming that the UN was going to be legislated via repeal to nothingness. We've since seen that this isn't the case, and frankly, these days I'm more interested in watching the dynamic political alliances and telegramming campaigns on a variety of issues.
In short, 2005 was an interesting year, which thus far as lead 2006 to be a good year as well!

Since the Wiki is imploding, could somebody tell me what the hell the UNCoESB is? Besides alphabet soup, that is.

United Nations Conservation of Endangered Species Bill.
It was the catch-all resolution that paved the way for the repeal of the Protection of Dolphins Act, and made future $species_is_cute resolutions redundant.

Out of the choices, Repeal "Promotion of Solar Panels" and The Microcredit Bazaar are the only resolutions Xanthal was really happy with. I voted for The Microcredit Bazaar simply because it was so interesting and unconventional, yet beneficial.

NSWiki has problems.
Sometimes it takes me 30 minutes to make a change or read a file. :( But it still is a useful resource. I was thinking it might be nice to take the UNA UN resolution subject index I made months ago and Wikify it.

I wouldn't have predicted Diplomatic Immunity, but on reflection, it's a good choice, in that it's a) international (and thus sovereignty-friendly) and b) not politically divisive.

*I could have sworn i posted in this thread when I made my choice*
Well looking at the list I would have Picked My own resolution UNCoESB which Gruenberg so eloquently stated ...
It was the catch-all resolution that paved the way for the repeal of the Protection of Dolphins Act, and made future $species_is_cute resolutions redundantThank you Gruenberg for recognition of that.
However as it is frowned upon by some for self praise votes, I did not choose it as my favourite of those listed. I chose Repeal Save the forrests of the world as the resolution repealed by this was an example to all of how not to write a resolution.
Thanks to those who have selected UNCoESB as your favourite of 2005.

When they restored many of the missing posts, another group *may* have disappeared, similar to how NS has worked when they've restored the game using a backup.

OOC: Is it a money issue? I use your NSWiki enough that I'd be happy to pay a small users fee. I honestly think it is one of the *BEST* parts of NationStates, in it really facilitiates story telling / roleplaying. It is very interesting to watch how different people choose to build their nation states: war machines vs. corporate empires vs. sports and entertainment meccas vs. cultural giants vs. environmental treasure houses.
To bring this a wee bit on topic ... I've been thinking of adapting my old UN Subject index (now out of date) to a NSWiki "list" or index, thinking it would be useful. Thoughts on that?
