Dear delegates,

Please consider endorsing my proposal, 'Promotion of Kabaddi'.

I think it is very good and it took me a very long time.

P.S. You're looking nice today.

first what is Kabaddi and second if you take away the mandatory after school part you might get more endorsements

Also, you should have submitted a draft of your proposal so people could look at it and give you corrections, or tell you things that you should change

Ok lets see...

The United Nations,

RECOGNISING that Kabaddi is the best sport in the world,

RECOGNISING ALSO the importance of breath-holding in personal development,

ALARMED that many nations have not even heard of Kabaddi, and of those that have, some have made it illegal, and others have even renamed it Akabusi, or allow acoustic fouling,

RESOLVES:

RULE ONE - That every child be allowed to play kabaddi at school daily.

ALSO - That offices provide mandatory kabaddi training at 3.37 p.m. at least once a week.

- That kabaddi testing be a mandatory part of job application.

- That all national flags shall henceforth include a picture of a kabaddi player.

- That Akabusi and acoustic fouling be put back in their proper place.

This will increase democratic participation and human wellbeing and reduce infant mortality and the price of basic foodstuffs.

Yep...This definately deserves a card.

While I appreciate the compliment on my appearance, I would be even more appreciative if the representative from ShivaShiva presented me with a copy of his proposal so that I can decide whether or not to support it.

Minister of UN Affairs
Thomas Smith

OOC: Nevermind. Jey kindly posted it, and it ain't getting any support.

Ooh...so close. This was almost 'just plain silly', but the flag part tipped it over into games mechanics. Bad luck old chap.

Are you saying I should lose the flag part?

You're right, maybe that spoils an otherwise sensible proposal.

Or something else?

You'll have to excuse my ignorance. I'm young and I haven't had a chance to read up on things because my tortoise died. He was 97. I shot him. :sniper:

Our government psychic picked up this transmission from a parallel dimension:

==

Two teams compete in Kabaddi, scoring by touching or capturing the players of the opposing team. Each team has 12 players: seven are on court at a time and five are in reserve. The two teams compete for higher scores, alternating defence and offense.

The game consists of two 20-minute halves, with a break of five minutes for change of sides. The playing area is 12.5m x 10m, divided into two halves.

The attacking side sends a raider who enters the opponents' half of the court chanting "kabaddi-kabaddi" repeatedly (this is called 'cant' or 'dak'), to show that he is not breathing in.

The raider's aim is to touch and/or wrestle any player on the opposing side and return to his court, all in one breath. The person whom the raider touches will then be out.

The aim of the opposing team will be to hold the raider, and stop him from returning to his own court, until he takes another breath. If the raider cannot return to his court in the same breath he is out.

Each team alternates in sending a player into the opponents' half of the court. If a player goes over a boundary line during the course of the play, or if any part of his body touches the ground outside the boundary, he will be out, except during a struggle.

A team scores a bonus of two points, called a lona, if the entire opposing team is declared out.

Matches are staged on the basis of age and weight.

Seven officials supervise a match: one referee, two umpires, two linesmen, a time keeper and a scorer.

It used to be on Channel 4 late at night.

That's a television channel from the parallel dimension, from somewhere called the UK.

Fun, no?

It sounds like Man Hunt and dodgeball thrown into one game, but with some weird alterations.

OOC: As I was reading this thread, I started wondering: "Why on earth am I reading this thread?" I mean, I knew from the title it was going to be bloody stupid... Then I thought "I guess I should stop reading this thread," because the utter stupidity of the proposal was confirmed. And yet, curiosity made me read through the whole thing. After that, an irresistible impulse forced me to post here, and while writing I started wondering "Why on earth am I wasting time posting in this stupid thread?"

What? You are not interested? Oh well...
*goes off to waste time somewhere else*

That irresistable impulse is the spirit of Kabaddi! You see! :p

Anyway I must go to bed. Diplomatic negotiations like this are very tiring. :(

This is a branding violation, metagaming (or GM, I'm not sure) violation, and bloody stupid/doesn't merit UN consideration violation.

I'd like to help improve this, but I think any type of mandating a sport just isn't going to fly. You might want to turn your attention to making a "right to sports" resolution, although I'm not sure if that merits the UN's consideration either.

It's nicely formatted, though. ;)

hell yeah, the republic of bratfud supports shivashiva in it's attempt to make Kabaddi compulsory.

any septic fools should look it up, compulsory viewing on saturday mornings in the early 90's.

just think of it as helping you're nations fat kids to lose weight

the armed republic of ninobrown recognises shivashiva's application and accepts that kabadi should be made mandatory in the institutions of those nations willing to accept this promotion of the sport.

kabadi kabadi kabadi kabadi kabadi kabadi kabadi kabadi ....:)

OOC: When I first saw this proposal, I thought it was a complete joke. Just on the off chance, though, I went and did a Web search on Kabaddi. Lo and behold, there really is such a game. Thanks for the chance to learn something about a piece of another culture.

Yeah it’s a real sport.

So is syncronised swimming. Or Korfball (http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A425963) So why should we support one sport over another?
Cluichstan
24-02-2006, 13:50
While we're at it, we can make buzkashi (http://www.afghan-web.com/sports/buzkashi.html) mandatory, too. Gruenberg would love that, no doubt.
ShivaShiva

All good, as long as they don't cut into kabaddi time. If they breed and make hybrid forms, so much the better.

As facinating as this discussion is the only sport I would promote would be Rugby Union.

Kirisubo has a strong league and I also used to play in a ladies team as well.
