2005 Resolution Wild Card Round

Hello,

A month ago we started a survey of the best 2005 resolution by dividing the top 10 2005 resolutions per quarter into 4 separate surveys. The top 2 resolutions from each of those surveys will advance to a final survey later. It was agreed that a “wild card” survey would be held to account for resolutions that didn’t make it into those first surveys.

However, we have room for 2 more resolutions, including some that didn’t qualify in the quarterly surveys. From the following 10 resolutions, please vote for the single resolution you felt was the best (for any reason). Feel free to reply explaining your vote, though replies are not necessary (they just will bump this thread).

The top 2 resolutions from this “wild card” survey will also advance to the final 2005 resolution poll (to be held mid-March).

The following resolutions are candidates (with links to their NSWiki entries to aid in reviewing the resolution text) for this wild card survey:

*Repeal “Legalize Prostitution”
*Nuclear Armaments (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Nuclear_Armaments)
*United Nations Security Act (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/United_Nations_Security_Act)
*Promotion of Solar Panels (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Promotion_of_Solar_Panels)
*Right to Divorce (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Right_to_Divorce)

It's funny - the two resolutions I disliked the most from this year I wanted to vote for - because quite frankly, the actual effects upon the community have made them my favorites - not the resolution themselves.

As such, I was really tempted to vote Solar Panels....but went with UNSA.

Heh, Solar Panels. Ill go with UNSA.

Mik, weren't you going to include the 3rd place resolutions for the wildcard round?

Honestly? None of the above.

EDIT: No, hang on... Repeal 'Legalise Prostitution', though there are many, many resolutions I hold in higher regard that have already been eliminated.

Nuclear Armaments, because the Mods neutered UNSA and it consequently does nothing to protect our arsenals.

Mik, weren't you going to include the 3rd place resolutions for the wildcard round?

I actually was debating putting in those resolutions that got 7 or 8 votes, but lost out to two others that were higher ... but was unsure and thus limited this one to just resolutions that didn't make the first round at all. *shrug*

As for Promotion of Solar Panels ... it was fairly nominated (and not by me, though an industrious reader can research and find out by whom), so it made it to this "Wild Card" round.

Only two of these resolutions will advance. However, in light of Fonzoland's question about some of the higher vote getting resolutions that didn't advance, we could require that "Wild Cards" have to out score those previous resolutions. I also will be running a runoff for the quarter when 3 resolutions were tied for second place.

Thanks all for voting / replying!

I think it would make sense to take just one of these five, and keep the other spot for the best 3rd place.

Yeah, I'd favour that.

Since it has been suggested and seconding, unless there are any serious objections (meaning posts without gun smilies), then we'll take the winner of the wild card for spot #9 in the final round, and the #10 spot will go to the resolution from the first four quarterly surveys (linked in the first post in this thread) that had the most number of votes.

Hmmm. Which to choose.

I really liked Repeal "Legalize Prostitution" as well as Nuclear Armaments. Ultimately I went with UNSA because of the unique construction and affect it had.

Close call... But declaring this poll not necessary for national defense, I have voted Nuclear Armaments.

So, (because I am bored) this is what still has to be done:

Second quarter second place tie breaker:
Discrimination Accord
Right to Learn Evolutionary Theory
Repeal “Elimination of Bio Weapons”

Third places contest:
1st Quarter: UNWODC (6 votes)
2nd Quarter: Runner-up from tie breaker (5)
3rd Quarter: UNCoESB (7)
4th Quarter: Global Food Distribution Act (7)

Since there is a tie for most voted, and it is not really fair to compare votes against different competition, I would suggest running another poll here, after the tie breaker is over. Or does that take too much time?

Believe it or not, that wasn't part of the decision-making process. If, for example, my other resolution Right to Self-Protection were put up against Nuclear Armaments and Repeal "Legalize Prostitution", Right to Self-Protection would be rated lower than the other two from my perspective.

I voted for Nuclear Armaments, but I guess I enjoyed Right to Divorce most. It was fun 'debating' it. Ah, the memories...

I agree that more polls are better ... we've got months before 2006 ends, so the only time issue is that we'll end up having a different sample of participants -- which is unavoidable at this point in time.

There is no reason the tie-breaker can't start now. And since you are keeping accurate track, if you can make the post before I can, please do! :)

With multiple polls happening, I'll have some time Saturday to encourage the feeders to vote (though only a few nations did last time).

Of course it would turn out that we've got *three* resolutions in position for that 10th spot (each with seven votes). :( Since this has dragged on long enough, how about we take the resolution that got 7 votes from the poll that also had the largest percentage of votes (as determined by the total number of votes cast)?
