The Wandering Nomads 2
21-02-2006, 23:09
Pets are fun, cuddly, energetic, and lovable. Pet Cruelty is an abuse that is growing. Pets should not have to deal with cruelty.

This proposal recognizes the rights of pets. Also, it sets up penalties for people abusing their own or someone else’s pets.

Cruelty towards pets includes…(accidents are taken into consideration)
-Starvation (Lack of Nutrition)
-Lack of water
-Beating or incessant hitting
-Failure to keep pets clean.
-Ignoring the Pet when it’s sick.
-Leaving a Pet in a locked car on a warm day without a window open at least several inches.
-Constantly missing appointments.
-Throwing a pet out a window of a home or car, except in an emergency.
-Forcing pets to fight each other.
-Putting pets in appliances (ex. Refrigerator, Microwave, etc.)
-Killing Pets (on purpose)
-Leaving Pets out to long when weather is harsh.
-Abandoning Pets
-Poisoning Pets

Penalties, for these crimes, range from community service to jail time.

Repetitive criminals will be watched and/or get surprise visits from animal activists or veterinarians.

I can't wait to find out the category... Seriously, do you honestly think this sort of thing belongs in the United Nations? We have something dealing with endangered species, which is a relevant environmental concern, but your argument is purely emotional.

This really does not seem to be something the UN is suited to dealing with. Local animal control officers should handle this sort of thing.

I find this a very good proposal. I'd vote "For".

Pets are fun, cuddly, energetic, and lovable. Pet Cruelty is an abuse that is growing. Pets should not have to deal with cruelty..

We have some pet sharks you can come and visit them anytime you feel the need to cuddle with our pets. This is a waste of time as there are more important matters the UN needs to deal with than something like this.

-Throwing a pet out a window of a home or car, except in an emergency. ..

At least we know we can save them on the 27th Floor or when the car is doing over 100 and your brakes don't work.... and not be in violation of cruelity to pets...

--Leaving a Pet in a locked car on a warm day without a window open at least several inches...

Here this is not practical as no matter how far down you leave the window in summer it will still get hot hot in a car. Then if you leave it all way down what keeps the pet in car....? Also what about leaving one in the car all night say during winter..?

The Supremely Democratic States of Hirota wishes to thank The Wandering Nomads 2 for bringing this draft to the UN floor for it's consideration. We are grateful that they have the wisdom to consult with the regulars on this board, even if the regulars on this board sometimes lack courtesy.

However, Hirota would be forced to vote against this if it came to a vote in it’s current form. My government feels that this resolution is unnecessarily micromanaging the issue, and that having a list of do’s and don’ts is overly restrictive and leaving the way open for abuse including those not listed.

We also have concerns that this may infringe upon certain religious or indigenous practices. Moreover, there is a concern that this is a domestic issue, which National Sovereignists may express concern or opposition towards.

What I would suggest is legislating on an international issue, such as the trafficking of animals, especially endangered species. There are nations on here who would be willing to help, or you can consult an environmental body called the Green Think Tank ( http://s13.invisionfree.com/Green_Think_Tank/index.php?act=idx) who I am sure would be able to assist. Sadly Hirota is otherwise occupied with our own legislation making and cannot promise you of our regular assistance on this matter.
