This thread is for the drafting of the Sexual Privacy Act, which is intended to replace Resolution #7, which the Grand Martoli is attempting to have repealed. The discussion on the repeal, as well as the drafts leading to this current form, can be found here: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=467112

Sexual Privacy Act

Category: Human Rights
Strength: Strong

WHEREAS, the United Nations previously passed Resolution #7, Sexual Freedom, on the basis of allowing consenting adults freedom from fear of prosecution for their sexual practices.

NOTING Resolution #xxx, Repeal "Sexual Freedom", which called for the swift replacement of Resolution #7.

REAFFIRMING that it should be forbidden for the government to interfere in the sexual practices of consenting adults, in the absence of serious public health risks;

The General Assembly of the UN:

1. DEFINES, for the purpose of this resolution, "consenting adult" as a person of the legal age of majority who has willingly agreed to the act in question, without impairment or coercion;

2. PROHIBITS member states from regulating sexual practices only involving consenting adults and performed in private places;

3. PERMITS member nations to pass provisions prohibiting the knowledgeable or negligent passage of sexually transmitted diseases, overriding clause 2 for this purpose.

Please direct comments and questions about the replacement in this thread, thank you.

Suggested rewrite (and yeah, I dislike whereas):

---

NOTING that the United Nations previously passed Resolution #7, Sexual Freedom, with the goal of freeing consenting adults from fear of prosecution for their sexual practices;

FURTHER NOTING that Resolution #xxx, Repeal "Sexual Freedom", called for swift replacement of Resolution #7;

REAFFIRMING that it should be forbidden for the government to interfere in the sexual practices of consenting adults, in the absence of serious public health risks;

The General Assembly of the UN:

1. DEFINES, for the purpose of this resolution, "consenting adult" as a person of the legal age of majority who has willingly agreed to the act in question, without impairment or coercion;

2. PROHIBITS member states from regulating sexual practices only involving consenting adults and performed in private places;

3. PERMITS member nations to pass provisions prohibiting the knowledgeable or negligent passage of sexually transmitted diseases, overriding clause 2 for this purpose.

Nice. I think this is about as good as it gets. If/when #7 is repealed, Ceorana will support this. I prefer Fonzoland's version, though.

Comments noted, and changes made, almost entriely co-opting Fonzoland's re-write. This, barring major unforseen issues, should be the draft that will be offered, pending Resolution #7's repeal.

At least replace one of the replacements in the second clause. It looks ugly. ;)

Sorry, an error from the Department of Redundancy Department there. :p Thanks for the catch, and consider it fixed.

Just a thought...'sexually transmitted diseases'. Plenty of Islamic scholars (and one or two Popes, I believe) have stated that homosexuality is a 'disease'. You might want to go with 'internationally recognised STDs'.

They consider it a psychological disorder, not a disease, and a disorder isn't "transmitted." I'd stay out of the religious stuff.

Ok: just making sure.
