New Ambassador to the UN

Hou Mian

As national business is starting to take up more of my time, I have felt the need to appoint an ambassador to the United Nations. You are all still free to contact me through a telegram, and I will be monitoring the situations here. However, for day to day affairs, you may contact my ambassador, Ku Fangpi. He is of the Tuokupi tribe, and has my utmost confidence.

Thank you all,
Ceorana

We welcome the new ambassador. May he never propose stupid resolutions.

By the laws of the United Nations, may it be eternally protected, I may not make proposals. There is only one other nation in our region who has made the utmost in wise decisions, and has joined the Nation States United Nations. Though we have humbly taken the post that we were elevated to by our blessed ally, the Technocracy of Agnaricia, we do not have enough international support to make proposals. Thus, you need never fear that we would squander the attention or the prestige of this august body in such wanton foolishness.

Also, many thanks for your welcome.

Greetings and salutations,
Glad you came to join in this festering snakepit we affectionately call the UN. Enjoy your stay, pay the gnomes your tithe of paper clips(shiny ones are best), and enjoy*snicker!* the debates. If you need me I'm currently under my desk drinking, and reading SOF magazine. Also remember to not block the veiw of the lovely Thessadorian Ambasador.
Excelsior,

Sen. Sulla,

I always enjoy debate, as long as it is rational and civilized and follows the proper order and protocol.

And I will take your advice, and order a good supply of new paper clips to give to the gnomes. Though I am not yet sure who these gnomes are, I know that you are a rather important personage in these parts, and so will follow your lead.

Moreover, would you care for a drinking companion sometime? We make many fine liquors in Hou Mian, especially baijiu and koumiss. I am not sure of proper seating protocol for when ambassadors are under a desk, but I'm sure it can be ascertained.

Thank you,
Ambassador Ku Fangpi, Voice of the Khaghan

OOC: Y'know, I just noticed the name of your ambassador. Even I wouldn't name my ambassador "fart" in another language. ;)

OOC: What language / dialect was that? If NationStates should be good for one thing, it should be teaching us what imaginary words are real words and best saved for certain places or avoiding in other places! :)

OOC: Mandarin Chinese. I'm only fluent in two languages, English and Spanish (I know Latin, too, but since it's a dead language, I don't count it), but I know a smattering of several.

OOC: I loved how in Firefly they used Chinese to not only add a sense of flavour to the series, but also as a way of sidestepping censorship.

OOC: Hell, I used to just use British slang to avoid censorship when I did radio here in the US. Doesn't have to be a completely different language. ;)

OOC: British Slang was the one reason the Censors over here let the Benny Hill show get away with so much. If they really knew how dirty some of his jokes actually were, they wouldn't have let the show on the air. Of course the one I really liked was Dave Allen at Large. Dave was much more direct. His was the first show that I saw a rude eyetallian arm gesture being given:D

OOC: All of the names I've used so far are jokes. I've been wondering if anyone would think to ask or know what they are.

The name of one of the tribes I came up with is "Tuokupi", which comes from a saying, "Tuole Kuzi Fangpi," or, ""He's so silly he'd pull down his trousers to fart." I rearranged that a bit to make the name of this ambassador.

My Khaghan's name, Fu Huangdi, literally means "Emperor Fu." Fu is my last name in Chinese, and I played an imperious ass in a skit once in Chinese class named Fu Huangdi.

The nations name and capital both come from Chinese idioms for people who rely on who they know rather than skill to get something. "Hou Mian" literally means "back door", and Guanxi means "relationships."

And Palentine...you probably don't want to know what your new ambassador's name means. :)

We would like to extend a warm welcome to the honorable Ku Fangpi as the new representative of Hou Mian.

[Whispered aside] Senator Sulla would be an great choice for a drinking companion. He has a ready supply of one of the world's finest beers, Iron City.

Ambassador Ahlman,

We thank you for your warm welcome, and we reciprocate. If there is anything that our humble nation is able to do for you, please, inform us and we shall do everything within our power to be of assistance.

*whispered* Unfortunately, I am a simple man, and used to the drinks of my homeland. Pijiu, or beer as you call it, has never appealed to me. However, I am always more than willing to provide alcohol for any occasion.
