Alien Rights
A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.
Category: Human Rights
Strength: Significant
Proposed by: Lawes large army
Description: I believe that aliens need rights to protect them from
death, torture and anything that might assault their race because if
they are assaulted their race might declare war on our planet and kill
us all.
Aliens found in U.N countries should be treated in the following way:
*They are to be allowed to leave the planet as soon as possible
*They will not be subject to ortopcies or anything that could harm them
*If they are unable to leave the planet and are a danger to the human
race i.e bacteria and disease(but not being hostile) they should be
kept in a secure but pleasent environment
*If the alien(s) are being hostile they are allowed to be killed if necercerry.

1. We already got a thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=397276) for discussing these sorts of proposals, you naughty boy.
2. The peeps who approved my proposal (http://www.nationstates.net/page=UN_proposal1/match=gay%20rights) might be a little shocked to learn that they'd actually approved two proposals for the price of one.
Shame on you! :p

Well, you got me :p.
I was 99% sure this was a joke, especially considering more than a few of the names that apparently endorsed this wouldn't support this sort of proposal on a bet, but I still went to the list and checked to make sure :D.
I need to start keeping a closer watch on my UN Mission. It appears they'll approve anything these days.

And that list of endorsements seems really skinny for some reason.

I knew it was a joke when I saw NewTexas' approval on it. He would definitely not approve such a poorly-written and badly-reasoned resolution, though he approves crappy repeals all the time because it doesn't really matter what a repeal says as long as it repeals the resolution in question.

Did you know that the word "gibberish" is derived from the word "algebra", because of what algebraic formulae looked like to people who tried to read them as if they were actually writing rather than mathematics?

Alien rights are not the business of the UN. Laws which refer to species create new classes, which should not exist. States make laws regarding rights.
The level of diplomacy to verify that a nation has legitimate non-racist authority to sanction breeding and related issues, is akin to that authority needed for declaring war.
People, the more we talk about things which are rightfully esoteric, the more problems are created, that should not exist.
Let participants agree that human beings and aliens belong to diverse cultures, many of which are intrinsic, and some of which span many nations. Let these nations identify their own diversity, then let the individual cultures define themselves.
These issues have to do with breeding and national sovereignty, which are authorized by non-racist authority within a nation. If a nation has sovereignty, that nation respects the rights of her citizens.
Having established non-secular authority, make this entire operation separate from the UN, and put theology back where it belongs.
Keep non-racist authority away from the the tyranny of the majority!

I have been advised by advisor to oppose this resolution. He insists that an old document once said that right are "inalienable" and that means you can "alienate" a right or give a right to an "alien."
(Note to self: Never hire your brother's three year old son as a legal advisor.)
I have consulted another advisor who insisted that I should oppose this resolution because it might alienate my constitutency and since aliens are my constitutency it would be unwise to alienate them.
(Note to self: Never trust your PR man for legal advise.)
I have finally consulted a real lawyer who asked, "You actually vote on resolutions?"
(Note to self: ABSTAIN courteously.)
Commonalitarianism
24-01-2006, 17:47
The Free States of Commonalitarianism wishes to amend this resolution. We support alien rights and human rights. However, we have the right to launch aliens back into space where they belong on one way tickets back to the mothership. At any time with permission of said aliens we will send them on one way tickets back into space. Or if said aliens are from another dimension we will help them build interdimensional gateways back home loaded with nukes in case they attempt to invade.

25-01-2006, 02:54
I am extremely pleased that this resolution successfully reached queue. As the first Delegate to give my approval to this fantastic article of legislation I was ever hopeful that we would have the opportunity to vote on it. The vast telegram campaign I launched in order to secure it reaching the floor shall only be rivaled by my secondary telegram campaign to get it to pass and at last become United Nations law.
I, like the author, agree that we should do everything in our power to prevent aliens from attacking the planet. I believe I would be remiss if I did not mention some of the more outstanding points that almost seemed to call me to approve this resolution.
*They are to be allowed to leave the planet as soon as possible
Aliens should indeed be allowed to leave the planet as soon as possible. Why should we make them wait though? The impressive military arsenal of Noctaurus has been given express orders to blast all alien craft out of the sky, thus expediting their journey so they need not stop on our planet at all.
*They will not be subject to ortopcies or anything that could harm them
Again we agree with the author wholeheartedly. Infact I used Noctaurus' premier web search engine, Noogleâ„¢, to look up the term "ortopcies" and this resolution happens to be the only mention of such a word from the entire history of my nation, the world, and beyond. (You can thank the UN Hologram Library for the dynamic images that aided me in my search) This being the case, we have no problem performing autopsies on the unfortunate victims of fantastic fireworks displays that occasionally grace the skies of Noctaurus when unidentified vehicles are detected over my realm.
*If they are unable to leave the planet and are a danger to the human
race i.e bacteria and disease(but not being hostile) they should be
kept in a secure but pleasent environment
Since the aliens are unable to leave the planet due to the fact their craft is no longer intact, and we believe them to be a very real danger... Because naturally, the odor their corpses emit must carry some nasty disease... we do infact keep them in a secure, although very pleasant environment. (Six feet under a delightful layer of topsoil, dirt, clay, and stone. Although our incinerators I'm told are also quite lovely)
*If the alien(s) are being hostile they are allowed to be killed if necercerry.
We believe that fancy lights accompanied by odd Tuba sounds, collecting small plants while pilfering Reese's Pieces from little boys, odd hand gestures while uttering something about "Living long.." and some other gibberish, and basically all other signs of communication, let alone existing, are the aliens attempting to behave in a hostile fashion towards my nation and the world. We are unfortunately forced to take drastic action.
Once again, I am deeply pleased to see this resolution reach queue and look forward to the day all U.N. nations will be subject to the tenets it puts forth. I hope in the future we will continue to have more resolutions of this nature, as they serve as a beacon to the non-U.N. nations of the world exactly what we're up to in these hallowed halls.
May the curses of Gatesville be upon you, if appropriate.

The CBI has turned up quite a few leads that indicate that it may be something far more insidious than a "bunch of geeks." We cannot reveal any further information at this point, however, as doing so could compromise the ongoing investigation. We will release more information as soon as we can.

Nah, I would make it all NatSov friendly. Only graveyards registered with the Vigilante Vampires Commission would be protected, and Ghouls would be exempted for obvious reasons. That is significant, not strong.

But what about those new graveyards that haven't gotten enough Vampires to qualify for being registered with the VVC? Are they going to be dug up with impunity by those nations that have no morals and will allow those vampires to burn up in the light of day? How can you allow such monsters to act with such impunity?

Please stop the emotional rhetoric about the poor innocent zombie children. I refuse to submit a culturally imperialistic, one-size-fits-all proposal that ignores the sovereignty of member nations to impose their own monster control policies. What if zombies start cross-breeding with <insert national animal>, should we forbid governments to cull them? Or if the vampires being protected are actually employed by a guerrilla group, should our army fight them in the dark when they are nearly invincible? It is all nice and fluffy to impose a blanket ban on grave-digging, but reality is a lot more complex. Human rights > Zombie rights.

How dare you presume that humans are of greater value than zombies. Humans, it is well recorded, we have way too many of. Zombies, on the other hand, are a rare species - one might wonder whether they shouldn't already be protected under UNCoESB. I will not suffer your conservative beliefs on the supremecy of the human race. I will not suffer your contempt of the Zombie population who are so deserving of our protection!

I, personally, am stunned that there are individuals who support the rights of the pre-dead but have nothing for contempt for the post-dead. And *I* am the one being called "culturally imperialistic"? It is obvious that some nations are filled with nothing but zombie-bashing philistines.
Also, the pseudoscientific issue of cross-breeding is a red herring. Pre-dead individuals of a given species are unable to produce fertile offspring with any other than another individual of the same species. This principle applies to those who have crossed the threshold of death. Human zombies are not about to mate with <insert national animal> to produce viable offspring, and are additionally more likely to prop up fringe pornographers whose necro-bestiality films will enhance the economy.
Why do you hate children and improving national economies?

Undead Legality Convention
Indeed. Such a resolution is the only way to protect the rights of all nations to brutally oppress the rights of the post-dead by granting the pre-dead the right to live. We must always stand up for brutal oppression by all nations and all peoples, even in the case of those who are often termed somewhat politically incorrectly "zombies".
Please, think of the nations.
Title: Undead Legality Convention
Category: Moral Decency
Strength: Mild
Proposed by: Texan Hotrodders
Description: The United Nations,
REAFFIRMING Article 5 of The Universal Bill of Rights, that no one may be subjected to cruel or inhuman treatment,
RECOGNISING that both scientific and moral opinion remains, and is likely to remain, irreparably divided over the issue of at what stage human life truly ends,
ACKNOWLEDGING that there are many societies within the NSUN that would consider an undead person, and especially a recently-departed animated corpse largely free of decomposition, to possess human characteristics and be deserving of special protection, whilst others would not,
REGRETTING that such divisions render global resolution over the rights of the undead rather unlikely,
SEEKING to establish a fair compromise:
1. DECLARES that states have the right to declare the creation of undead persons legal or illegal, and to pass legislation extending or restricting the right to be undead;
2. RECOMMENDS that in cases of non-consensual re-animation, poorly-performed re-animation, or where the continuation of the undead life poses severe medical risk to the re-animator, states permit the re-animation procedures;
3. URGES states to prevent the re-animation without re-mentation (RAWR) procedure;
4. CALLS FOR increased international research in re-animation, so as to develop greater understanding of the ramifications of the procedure;
5. REMINDS states that in the absence of completely reliable re-animation prevention measures, there may always remain a demand for re-animation, and that legalisation and regulation is more likely to provide sanitary re-animation possibilities for the creation of undead persons.

Is it time to revive the Forced Banishment Ban?
As the author of the catastrophe that was Forced Banishment Ban, I'm begging you all by whatever you hold as holy, please no, anything but that.
The most badly defeated resolution in recent UN history, maybe all UN history, and you want to revive it? I'd rather be overrun with zombies all waving "rights for the undead now" placards, and provide the brain snacks (perhaps Wateranan wannabe capitalists could be useful for something after all :D), than go through that embarrassment again.
Besides, under the original Forced Banishment Ban, these creatures would have ceased to be citizens of their nation at their death, so would be ineligable for protection under it anyway, unless of course the nation concerned likes it's zombies and lets them retain their citizenship for all eternity.
