Capital Punishment is a Sin

It is.

How can it not be?

We must abolish it.

OK, That's just my opinion.

Sin.

surely thats a judeo-christian concept and we can leave religious debates for a while.

I believe my nations position on capital punishment is well known, even if its rarely used.

Capital punishment is a nations way of dealing with treason, murder and other very serious crimes.

sometimes a criminal needs to be executed so that the people can see justice being done and a rabid animal put out of its misery for the good of the nation.

and I do not believe we should ban it.

As has been pointed out, 'sin' is a Christian concept (as is your appeal to

God)

so it has little relevance anyway to

nations like mine

If you are refering to a GOD that flooded the earth and killed all but 8 then he is all for capital punishment.. So what is your point here... Go read about the number of times GOD killed... for GOD's so called cause.... Plagues on cities and groups of people all sorts of events where people were killed by GOD...

Well I believe that if someone killed my mother I would be at ease to know that the demon behind her demise is going to be killed by the government. Also I would like to point out the old saying of "...an eye for an eye..." I am pretty sure that was in the bible seeing as though I have read it in there. So if its a sin then why would the Creator assign such a thing?

Also many nations are ruled by the idea of secularism. seeing that secularism seperates holy law from their government laws(for the most part) then why would the government consider it a sin they(the government) is just liquidating a murder. But for those nations who are theorcacies(that I know of) they inforce the "an eye for an eye" saying. Basically, I believe that capital punishment is not a sin. Plus to me I don't care if it doesn't work for making murders stop. All I would want is to know that the person who had killed my mother is no longer allowed to breath, eat, laugh, cry, sleep, ect anymore just as my mother wouldn't be able because of her/him.

To answer Bob Flibble I can't say that I have seen a dead person kill anyone. Except for in the movies when the zombies were going on rampages, but it was just that...a movie.

Please tell me how it can be justified. How God could agree. Not to start a wildfire debate here, but God seems just fine with death. While I could certainly give a long list (http://www.biblegateway.com/quicksearch/?quicksearch=put+to+death&x=0&y=0) of references, let's just stick with one:

He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death.

Well there's the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. I'm the fourth half of the trinity and Knoot is Satan. I'm afraid our organisation just doesn't have many deity positions left.

However, if Mr Hack would like to apply in the supernatural entities category I'm sure we could find something for him to do.

Well, if the trinity already has four halves (wonderful mystical statement, I might add), why don't you make it Father, Son, Big Brother, and the Holy Ghost? That way you could have a trinity of four, where you are the fifth half, and all are One.

There are those who would argue that "an eye for an eye" is not what you must take, but the most you are permitted to take. It does not call for vengence, but instead prevents someone from going way over the top whilst seeking it.

"...an eye for an eye..."
That was meant as a cap, so that you could not punish someone by killing them, if they themselves did not kill.

We find this arguement moot, as we do not have capital punishment, we find the use of religion as cause to do anything, as most repugnant.

We would also like to point out, that it is not the UNs job to discuss religion in any way, shape or form.

He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death.
And if a man lie not in wait, but God deliver him into his hand; then I will appoint thee a place whither he shall flee.
But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die.
And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.
And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.
And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.Yes, that's right. Tell your parents to fuck off, and it's killin' time.

As for "eye for an eye" specifically, we skip a bit:

(emphasis added)[/size]"]And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.
And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; he shall let him go free for his eye's sake.
And if he smite out his manservant's tooth, or his maidservant's tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooth's sake.

Well look at that. Life for a life. Now can we finally agree that Old Testament Law was fully and completely in favor of capital punishment and move on?

Personally I perfer Gandhi's explaination of the "eye for an eye" saying.

*points down to blue line in her sig*

We have just abolished the death penalty in Waterana but not because we think its a sin. That sort of religious concept has no place in our government decisions. What other nations do within their nations to their criminals is their own business however.

New Hamilton, I'm absolutely shocked that you presented your arguments in the way you did. I had hoped your time off would've let you reflect upon the failings of your arguments and the way you present them. You don't give arguments, you give opinions. An opinion is a statement indicating a position. An argument in an opinion back by reasoning. It has often been proven that trying to use religious values is about as stupid as you can get with reasoning - and I'm certain you have the experience by now to know this. So why do you continue to post this tripe on the forums with so little actual arguments?
