[OOC: The last time I was on NationStates there was something called The Pretanama Panel; I'm just wondering if it's still operational, if it's had any success, and if there are any open positions. Thanks.]

The resolutions still exist; the forum (http://s3.invisionfree.com/UN_Organizations/index.php?c=8) still exists. TPP has, though, been inactive for some time, and as I understand it, many of the original participants are unwilling to pursue another investigation until such time as faults with the scenario have been resolved. So, my answer is, "Er..."

I'll add to this briefly, there are so many different things, that getting involved in a genocide investigation would realistically take so much time, that as individual players we would then have to be less active in other parts of the game.

In other words, it takes a great deal of time.

I would go further than my esteemed colleagues and say that TPP with all its ideals and merits was a disaster. Genocide would occur and a panel would be convened and TPP would politely ask " excuse me old chap, would you mind holding off on the Genocide until we can .......
1, Spend days just electing a chair, nevermind getting the required minimum of 10 nations to actively participate
2, Actually get the Genocide Investigated,
3, Actually form a concensus by majority,
4, decide to do anything about it,
5, Assuming the accused doesnt mind role plaing the scenario and does so with out god moding or being god moded by the RP N00bs (my self included) in resolving the matter."

In summary its a nice idea that I am afraid just didnt work.
That in essence is why it stopped after TPP 0003.

I understand... I guess that's why Hack's (I think they're Hack's) resolution rules say that members can't actually sit on committees created by resolutions.

As I understand it, I don't think that was the rationale. Indeed, in my interpretation, we're not banned from continuing to sit on committees - there were TPP hearings after the revised rules entered into force - but we are banned from submitting proposals whose operation is dependent on, or even which contain reference to, actual committees. Furthermore, there is no force for recognition of TPP: if UN members claimed to have set up a different Panel, they could do so, and ignore the other one, quite legitimately. There's nothing to stop us RPing actions of various committees - it's just not something that will have any effect on the UN, which the UN recognises, or which can be enshrined or encouraged in proposals.

That's the way I reads it, anyway.

And look at me with only 393 (well, the UN Mission also has 350 or something). We Yeldans are tight lipped.

You mean in the Strangers Bar? I bought the drinks after the Dolphin repeal passed, I don't think any Yeldans have been back to the bar since. If I go there I'll have to kill Mr. Special.

That in essence is why it stopped after TPP 0003.I've thought for a while that particular resolution was in need of a replacement. I know it won't happen, but one can always think :)

A replacement was disscussed but there was no concensus on that either. It hung on the fact that to work the Panels had to be smaller, About 7 nations. However it is written in stone that TPP must have 15 Panel members and to change this would require a repeal and a rewrite of Gwenstephani's Resolution.
Personally speaking I would be in favour of a total rewrite and reworking of the Resolution to effect changes.

You mean repeal and get something more workable in it's place? I could not agree more.

The original author is still around. Why not ask him?I made my thoughts on the original clear to the author sometime ago. The author knows I think it's unworkable anymore. But I know I'd get ultra protective if someone started on rights of indigenous peoples, so I could understand it if the author got protective.

I see no need for repeal. The Panel can function perfectly well in its current state.
