UN Resolutions, Interaction, Precedent and Repeals

This is more of a question than anything else, and it might not even belong in this forum, so if any wandering mod wants to lock/delete it, feel free (cause, of course, you obviously need my permission to do it :})

Is there anywhere that has done an indepth study of how the resolutions act on each other, and what legal outcome they might have, and what the effect of repealing some and not others might be?

I started thinking about it cause of an attempt to repeal Definition Of Marriage - what would the outcome to the UN be if such a repeal suceeded?

And other things - slavery, pedophillia etc.

I realise this is just a game, but it's quite a large one, and even if you only take in to account the UN it's still pretty big, and could make a sizeable subject.

So - has anyone done it? And - if they haven't - would anyone like to join me in giving it a shot?

(ooc - before you think I have no life, I actually don't have much of one at the moment for various reasons, and am looking for things to stop me going insane while waiting for the reasons to stop being what they are being)

Anyway - just a thought.

Well, every UN resolution is meant to be able to stand on its own. As a result, there shouldn't be any knock-on effects.

However...

This isn't always the case. Particularly for older resolutions, which went under different proposal rules/no rules at all. So you get things like the Definition of Fair Trial, which cannot survive without the Fair Trial resolution it is built upon. Habeas Corpus depends on both Definition of Fair Trial and the Wolfish Convention (I'm pretty sure this couldn't happen under the Most Glorious Protocols, but it was certainly legal under the previous Enodian Protocols).

Yeah - but for example you can repeal Definition of Marriage, and gay marriage would not be illegal.

Things like that :}

Well, that one's a case where there are (depending on how you interpret them) at keast two resolutions covering the same topic. Gay marriage is already protected under Gay Rights. Def. of Marriage merely extends it to heterosexual couples as well.

Yes, the UNA-Powerhungry Chipmunks had a grant from the Powerhungry Chipmunks to study the impacts of Global Disarmament resolutions and their implications on international law with respect to warfare.

There is a brief discussion here at the UNA sub-forum:

However, the UNA-Freedonia was kind enough to reprint the paper in a more readable format.

:) The United Nations Association Mikitivity Chapter reviewed the paper, but hasn't sent its comments to the other two chapters yet. However, it is a great analysis of UN resolutions, voting trends, and their implication on international law.
