Repeal "End slavery"

Argument:

[-The right to travel freely throughout their country]

Although we may not like to think it, the UN is a world wide target for terrorism, which we have seen with the recent attacks upon nations within the UN.

The above proposal would grant anyone that claims they are a person from a UN nation access to areas which should for obvious reasons be out of bounds to your average UN citizen of the nation, or terrorist pretending to be a citizen of the nation, or a citizen of the nation which is now actively taking part in operations against the nation and its people.

[-The right to bodily safety from one's employer]
[- The right to leave her or his job, given two weeks' notice.]

These have nothing to do with abolishing of slavery, this matter would be more suited to workers rights, which should be apart of an employers safety scheme or UN safety laws and UN workers rights.

[- The outlawing of the selling or purchasing of people.]

Does not state anything about trading people, which is neither selling nor purchasing in the eyes of the law.

(IDF)Would like to see the End Slavery resolution repealed and re written to ensure the safety of all parties involved in such circumstances.

They sound mostly reasonable points - but I'd like to see the draft repeal, and also a draft in place to replace the existing legislation when repealed.

I am impressed. There are a few resolutions I can't ever see myself considering repealing, and this is one of them, but you make some good points.

Still - more detail would be better :}

Well if anyone would like to write it i wouldn't mind as i have just finished the UNER proposal :( wich i had to shorten alot and make less complex because i never knew there was a text limit on new proposals lol :D
But i will do one soon if no one wants to.

It's perfectly simple. You could trade people you already 'owned', for example a parent could trade their child...

I will support a repeal of "End Slavery" despite the fact that I detest the practice. I would also be willing to help the representative from Hirota write a replacement if he is willing.

Arguement - While the resolution to End Slavery (#6) has laudable goals, the actual implementation of the resolution can also create some insurmountable problems in the current political climate.

For example the right to travel freely thoughout one's country would prevent the government holding people in jail for crimes they had committed, would prevent people from owning private land and would prevent the police and government from securing buildings and other areas against unwanted intruders.
Further more training in various armed forces and other activities can result in accidental bodily harm (such as when sparring or boxing), and this resolution prevents such necessary training.

Finally the Resolution "Ban Trafficking In Persons" coupled with other equal rights legislation holds all members of the UN to the ideal that people can not be bought, sold or held in slavery for any reason.

Consequently it is argued that the implementation of this resolution has unforseen side-effects, the rights and ideals of the resolution are already protected in existing resolutions, and will not be lost.

As such, it is proposed that this resolution be repealed, and thus removed from the laws of the UN.

based upon

Description: The scourge of slavery yet remains in these progressive times. People are bought and sold like cattle, unable to determine their destiny. Their families are split apart; they are allowed no possessions of their own. They are beaten, chained, and tortured.

Therefore, I propose that the following human rights be given to every peoples of this great world:

- The right to leave her or his job, given two weeks' notice.

- The right to own possessions.
- The right to travel freely throughout their country.
- The right to bodily safety from one's employer.
- The outlawing of the selling or purchasing of people.

I don't want to mention terrorism if possible, cause I think it is used far too often to justify things (but I admit, that could just be me) but I think it can stand as it is.

Any suggestions?

(Also - I am not certain a replacement needs drafting, but again - that could just be me)

Sorry - maybe I wasn't clear :}

The repeal would be this :-

Arguement - While the resolution to End Slavery (#6) has laudable goals, the actual implementation of the resolution can also create some insurmountable problems in the current political climate.

For example the right to travel freely thoughout one's country would prevent the government holding people in jail for crimes they had committed, would prevent people from owning private land and would prevent the police and government from securing buildings and other areas against unwanted intruders.

and the original resolution was this :-

Description: The scourge of slavery yet remains in these progressive times. People are bought and sold like cattle, unable to determine their destiny. Their families are split apart; they are allowed no possessions of their own. They are beaten, chained, and tortured.

I am not a fan of using terrorism to justify laws or repeals - I think it is overused and generally is only brought in either as a scare tactic or to bolster things that have no real actual meat to them.

Finally - I am not certain that a replacement for "end slavery" needs to be put in to place, should it be repealed, because "Ban Trafficking in persons" does much the same job, only better :}
