On behalf of the people of Cluichstan, the following repeal proposal has been submitted for consideration:

Repeal "Citizen Rule Required"
A proposal to repeal a previously passed resolution

Category: Repeal
Resolution: #8
Proposed by: Cluichstan

Description: UN Resolution #8: Citizen Rule Required (Category: The Furtherment of Democracy; Strength: Strong) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

Argument: This resolution forces a form of government upon member states. While the people of Cluichstan believe self-rule by all peoples of the world to be an admirable goal, the UN cannot and should not impose a particular form of government upon member states.

Respectfully,
Sheik Nadnerb bin Cluich
Cluichstan's Ambassador to the UN
Regional Delegate from Scybala

the UN cannot and should not impose a particular form of government upon member states. Isn't this what the UN is?

You may have a rules violation by mentioning yourself within the resolution. I'm not sure whether Resolution #8 actually mandates a certain form of government be maintained. A totalitarian nation may be in compliance simply by allowing their citizens to choose between catsup and mustard on their hamburger. Although I would consider repealing Resolution #8, I don't think this repeal will be strong enough to do so. Good luck,

It fails due to branding, which makes it illegal

I also doubt It will be passed.

The branding was accidental, this having been my first time attempting to use the repeal feature. I would be more than happy to resubmit the repeal proposal without the offending mention of Cluichstan. :(

Your loophole example aside, Resolution #8 mandates at least some level of democracy, which is certainly an admirable goal, but imposing any form of government upon member states is not the purview of the UN.

I was going to attempt to draft a repeal resolution for this as well today. It hurts a nation's sovereignty, as well as its ability to self determine itself as a nation. Also the UN isn't supposed to be something that acts as a government. It's supposed to be something that works as a forum for member nations.

OOC: Sorry if that is a little convoluted it's 3am, and I haven't slept in almost 24 hours, but the ideas are that I think.

According to past/passed resolutions the UN has mandated laws on child molestation, treatment of prisoners of war, genocide, healthcare, eudcation, copyright, prostitution and many other areas. I think it is safe to say it has the authority to act as a government.

But it is also safe to say that if a country wants to be a dictatorship, it should be allowed to. But even in a dictatorship it can be argued that citizens have a say in how they are governed - they can chose to obey the dictator or they can be shot for treason.

(The resolution said nothing about the choice being good)

people always have a choice even in a dictatorship.

A bad dictator can always be put out off office by the actions of the people.

Usually when the people are unhappy with their despotic ruler their dissatisfaction transfers to the military and a new leader replaces the old one.

its always been that way and will remain a warning to all dictators to keep their people happy and contented.

it can also happen to any leader that makes a mess of their country. Revolution is the natural reaction to a governments incompetance.
