Excess Resources - Please Vote

Arab Republic of Egypt

This is a request for all Delegations to vote for this proposal,
its for Excess Resources
A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.

Description: Some of the Rich states get rid of excess resources like excess straw or rice by throwing them in the sea or the ocean,
cause if they supply them in markets they will cause falling in prices and ecnomic disaster,

We are asking in this resolution to force rich countries to give the excess resources or goods they have to developing countries to help them facing their hardships instead of throwing them in the ocean,

This will improve:
- The economic state of the developing states
- Will not effect the economic state of the rich states
- Will improve world peace as terrorism is a direct result of poverty

please approve ;)

Actually, it would negatively effect the economies of the rich nations. Still a proposal worth considering, though.

Actually, what happens frequently is that over-producing, subsidised first world producers dump their excess goods on developing nations' markets at artificially reduced prices. This puts the local producers out of business, since without subsidies they can't match the low prices of the foreign goods (which are frequently sold for less than it cost to make them).

What you're proposing is even worse - instead of the products being sold at artificially low prices, they'd be given away for free. This is only good as a short-term solution to severe shortages, such as famine. What is needed is a fair trade structure in which poor countries can build up sustainable industries and generate their own wealth - in the vein of the old saying "give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day - teach him to fish and he can eat for a lifetime".

I've never heard of larger nations dumping their excess resources in the ocean. So i cannot endorce this proposal.

sorry.

OoC: While I've never heard of dumping waste in the ocean, it is not uncommon for excess maize in the US to be burned to keep prices high

The people of Cluichstan reject this proposal. There are no excess resources, as a buyer can always be found for any resources that the people of Cluichstan cannot use themselves.

Respectfully,

The good people of Discordinia are just as perplexed as the esteemed delegate from Shazbotdom. We have never heard of a nation simply dumping resources into the ocean, and question the reliability of your sources.

Just dumping excess goods on smaller countries is not going to solve their problems. In fact, many farmers will be bankrupted (in smaller, economically developing nations) thanks to their own markets being swamped with free foreign produce.

As a short-term famine reliever, then this kind of action is useful, but in the place of a long-term economic plan, it is catastrophic. The development of local industry and agriculture, coupled with a fairer trade structure that permits LEDC's to compete in the market-place and enjoy fair prices for their goods, is a much better alternative.

May the blessings of our otters be upon you.
