Please support the repeal of the citizens rule act

Having read through existing legislature, this resolution strikes me as one of the more poorly worded - and the topic which it covers is amongst the most dangerous for the continued integrity of national sovereignty. Future UN mandates could use this legislation to dictate the nature of our sovereign governments on a local, regional or national level.

I believe it's vital that we repeal this act, and if necessary replace it with a more limited and straightforward resolution. Please support the resolution so that it reaches quorum.

Repeal "Citizen Rule Required"
A proposal to repeal a previously passed resolution
Category: Repeal

Resolution: #8
Proposed by: Deserted Wilderness

Description: UN Resolution #8: Citizen Rule Required (Category: The Furtherment of Democracy; Strength: Strong) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

Argument: It is the contention of our delegate that UN Resolution #8, 'citizen rule required', should be repealed for the following reasons:

Requiring member nations to grant self rule to all citizens on a vaguely defined "some level" renders the UN incapable of judging whether or not this is being enforced in member nations. There is no level of self rule specified, nor even a definition of what the signatory nations believe "self rule" to be.

It is essential not only for the sovereignty of each individual member state but also for the effectiveness and potency of the UN as a whole that such resolutions contain clear and specific language regarding when, where and to what degree the UN can dictate the formation of government at national, regional or local level.

There is no explanation of how granting "some level" of self rule would "promote international peace" or deter the formation of "rouge[sic] nations". There is no evidence supporting the argument that granting low level self rule to citizens promotes international peace, as it can be observed that many modern wars originate with mass jingoistic public support from the populace of the aggressive nation. As such, half of the resolution's existing text has no logical base.

This resolution is a sloppily worded and therefore dangerous remnant of the organisations first few months, and should be removed from standing legislation pending a clarification or new submission in its place. At the very least this is pointless and ineffective legislation; the worst case scenario could see it being used to alter the very nature of a sovereign state's government at all levels. Please join with our delegate and vote to repeal resolution #8.

The People's Republic of Uzakastan SUPPORTS this repeal, and our nation intends to vote FOR it when it's brought forward to a proposal.

Furthermore, our intentions to support this repeal is so a properly worded and carefully catagorized resolution to the Citizen's Rule may be drafted. (ooc: not necessarily by you) Failure to do so will constitute Uzakastan's withdrawal from the United Nations.

Unfortunately without support from regional delegates, it is very much a case of 'if' if comes to a vote. If you support the appeal, notifying your regional delegate would be very much appreciated.

(ooc: that's cool. I hadn't intended to be the one to write a replacement anyway)

You have my vote if you have the intention of creating a revised version of this law.
