Complaint to UN Moderator(s)

As some of you know, i have been persistant in my pursuit to get my proposal, "Repeal DVD region removal" to reach quorum in the UN. My three attempts have failed marginally all three times, reaching 111, 112, and 110 endorsements each time. On my second attempt, my proposal was deleted with two days left for reasons of "branding", which is, in this case, was providing my nation's name in the body of the proposal. While i feel this is a ridiculous reason to ruin all my work with crafting my proposal and my TG campaign, this is nonetheless a rule. More recently, however, my proposal was deleted approximately 18 hours early when i had 110 endorsements on it. (21 from quorum). I simply cannot understand why the moderators would do this, seeing that numerous proposals with the same "Ends on Monday, September 12th" tag remain on the table. Moreover, there is not nearly an overabundance of proposals in the UN, so the need to delete proposals slightly early is defeated. I am very displeased with the way the moderators are handling this, seeing that the past two attempts I would have reached quorum easily. I would like some explanation please. I will continue to submit this proposal until it is accepted.

Respectfully,
Jey
Regional Delegate of United Nations Region

Proposals don't expire at "midnight, your time" on the day listed. They expire at either the early or late Update, depending on when you filed it. Remember, this game runs on UK time (GMT), not where you happen to be.

I've been the one deleting illegal proposals lately, and I ALWAYS telegram the proposer (except when the nation is also a massive UN multi or griefer or something). If you got one notice for "Branding", then that's the only one I deleted. The rest simply expired.

I've tracked all my proposals and they all were deleted at around 4 AM (my time; Eastern USA) on the day after it was expected to expire. This was deleted at around 7 AM (my time) the day OF its expiration. I remember i filed it at around 8 PM (my time), certaintly that qualifies for the "late" update.

Generally speaking (through analysis), I don't know about normal proposals, but I've observed that the leading repeals in each day's worth of proposals are often deleted early like that. This is just normal. No foul play was committed here.

please, where can we found the exact "GMT hours" about both submitting and deleting?

it's done manually?

I honestly don't know, but people have stated that these times seem to fluctuate....

Back when I did my four attempts on "Rights and Duties of UN States", that's the timing I saw as well. I found that the best time to submit was around 8:30 EST, (after making sure that the UN page was done updating). As to which day of the week to submit, that's the challenge, eh?

The timing of the update depends on how many nations are alive, how many regions are alive, and how much other activity (endorsement changes, applications to join the UN, etc) there have been. There may be a fairly fixed start time, but the end time is variable ... which is the key factor here.

it's a bit tricky! lol!

it's done manually?

The UN updates are important for the "tank rush" (region crashing / defending) part of NationStates, as Delegates are determined during one or both of these updates (I believe just the later one, but I'm not into that part of the game at all).

The moderators are not supposed to tell us when the updates will take place, even for UN proposals. It could be manual or it could be scripted. :)

i had no idea the whole business was so complicated. i just figured that after 5 days or so a computer would automatically delete them.

It does (after 3 days or so). It's the "or so" that causes things to get interesting sometimes.

IMO, Thursday would be best. Many people play only on weekdays and from their work place. The others can be found anytime of the week. So you would want as many weekdays as you can get towards the end!!

I am assuming that the approval time expires after 1 week. If it is 5, then Friday would be better.

Anyway Jey, you may already be satisfied with the other replies, but I want to relate my proposal experience. When I submitted my proposal, I was the 4th or 5th to do so that day. Unfortunately I didn't get a quorum myself. But on the last day, I noticed that the proposals submitted before me expired a little earlier than mine. Probably to give a chance for the late submitted proposals to be shown on the first page. Even if you go to the airport or railway station two minutes late, you will miss your journey. Similarly, the NS UN thinks that 5/7 days is more than enough to attain the quorum.

I would say, don't loose heart and keep trying. I believe the maximum attempts by a nation before attaining a quorum is 15!! You are actually sub-conciously motivating me to propose my resolution a little earlier.

Thanks and best of luck for your future endeavours.

I've always preferred Tuesdays. I find the weekend crowd to be unreliable.

Besides, if I'm telegramming to a crowd that updates everyday of my campaign (instead of stopping updating halfway through my campaign as might be the case of proposals submitted on Thursdays), then those that don't respond, read, or act upon my telegram have another opportunity the next day when they update (unless they delete the telegram).

It's between 3 and 4 days, not 5 to 7.

I guess Mon or Tue will be perfect then!!
