Sensible Proposals

With the extent of the posting on the thread 'Silly Proposals' I thought it might be cool to start up a different thread showing up some proposals which are actually very reasonable and should be shown as good examples if they haven't had the degree of marketing that'll get the drafts up here and the telegram campaigns and what have you going on. I know it's probably not as funny as finding the next 'Inflatable Gandalf Act', but it's worth a go :p

I'll start with:

Protection of Lawful Commerce
A resolution to reduce barriers to free trade and commerce.

Category: Free Trade
Strength: Significant
Proposed by: Dixon Eldorado

Description: If you manufacture a legal product, and someone uses it in an illegal act, you should not be held liable for someone else's action.

Therefore, be it resolved that individuals and companies that manufacture legal items shall not be legally liable if someone uses their legal merchandise to commit a crime, or commit any illegal activity. Be it further resolved that if someone takes a legal product into another nation where the product is not legal, and then commits a crime with it, the company shall likewise be free from liability.

I have a strong feeling that this is going to be a much smaller thread than "Silly Proposals", even accounting for the latter's age advantage...

I fear so. Is this another example of the adage that bad (silly?) proposals squeeze out good? :p

Can we have a boring proposals list too?

Can we have a boring proposals list too?
We pretty much already do, here's the link. (http://www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/78651/page=UN_proposal) ;)

cheers Bob, you saved me the effort of having to explain the irony in my question *wink*

I agree with my esteemed colleagues, I don't think you'll find much in the way of sensible proposals. However in my observations I believe if you had a sensible proposal and put the work sex in the title or make references to cute furry bunnies, it would pass.<WARNING! INSENSITIVITY! INSENSITIVITY!<lights flash and sirens sound>> Sorry my cynicism is starting to rear its ugly head again. I think I'll get some snakebite remedy.

Your being wrong is also starting to rear its ugly head. Please provide examples of resolutions where the mentioned tactics have worked.

I like the idea of the proposal, I believe it should be combined with Resolution #30, The Common Sense Act II (Strange, I can't find The Common Sense Act I) to form one comprehensive resolution. Wether this can be considered an ammendment to Resolution 30, or requires the appeal of Resolution 30 I'm unsure. Even alone, this proposal is a good idea.

Well, really, if we have sensible proposals in stock they should be on the floor and being discussed. What's the point of listing them all, especially considering the sniping that it produces?
