Ambassador Katzman: Thank you for an honest, thoughtful assessment. As previously stated, "national sovereignty" was a weak argument, and had no place at the top of the document. Bottom line, this repeal will not pass, and I have accepted that fact. If I do offer another repeal, it will simply argue that the UNCoESB (the passage of which is virtually assured) makes the PoDA moot.

Regards,
John Riley

Thank you Ambassador Riley. I also think that would be a very strong point to make. Keeping repeals short, might help to focus the debates back on the original resolution. I wonder if perhaps any of the assumptions in the original resolution *debates* could be useful to bring up again?

My government certainly wishes your people luck.

OOC: Daily issues can change those stats, but UN resolutions are "automated" and more general. The summary at the top of the resolution pretty much tells us what game stats will be changed if the resolution passes. Repeals undo resolutions, but to a lesser degree. I could be wrong, but I do not think moderators have the time let alone ability to change every UN member's stats if they feel that a resolution increases say Furniture Restoration.

I *think* that if a player wants to increase the game's ability to tweak that industry, they have no choice but to submit a daily issue and try it that way. The moderators try to keep some things hidden from us to make things interesting. :)

OOC: oh yeah I'm pretty sure you're right. The only thing I do notice is tax rate. Every now and then a resolution will bump it up a notch. Although I do think for some reason a Gambling resolution will change that Industry level...but I've been wrong before.

I don't see whats wrong with loading captive dolphins up with fertility drugs, artifically inseminating them and killing the baby dolphins for dolphin veal cuttlets. Afterall we keep dolphins at aquariums and sea world, why not farm some dolphin meat and sell it to the insanely rich?

OOC: I am guessing the exact same thing. We've never had a Gambling resolution reach the floor.

To be honest, I'm in two minds about the 'Protection of Dolphins Act'. Yes, we should of course protect dolphins from harmful fishing practices and seek to conserve a viable population base. On the other hand, is it really necessary to have a specific act pertaining to dolphins to do so? Why not have a general 'Sealife Protection Act', which could cover dolphins and all other protected species?

May the blessings of our otters be upon you all

Leonard Otterby
Ambassador for the Republic of Compadria to the U.N.

Long live dolphin friendly Compadria!

Greetings.

Would the delegate for Mikitivity like to see this happen? We of Roathin have sponsored the 'Right to Randomness' proposal for that very purpose. It is a gamble, but that means win or lose, Roathin wins!

As for the dolphins, they can take their chances too.

Dolphins should be kept in aquariums for our amusement, not wasted by swimming around all willy nilly in the sea.

My researchers have concluded that dolphins are smart enough to stay away from fishing nets. As such, they can only conclude that dolphins become depressed when they cannot perform for humans by jumping through hoops, and as a last resort they entangle themselves into fishing nets in hopes of becoming a tasty tuna salad or cassarole to please us humans.

The only humane thing to do is to continue fishing unobstructed.

Dolphins are a great source of protein which should not be wasted on such creatures as the killer whale and great white sharks,

Mt Keira demands that our country has a right to manage its costal waters and the things in it.

Those who propose protecting the Dolphin should only be looking at protecting it in the international waters.

If you dont want to eat your dolphins so be it. For those that do I suggest a curry!

It looks as though the repeal won't be such a close vote after all.

Our scientists have proven that a diet of dolphin meat will not only cure cancer, but increase our olympic swimmers speed by 15%

On the other hand it will also cause people to spit out random statements, most of which aren't true.

You've all been awesome. Thank you all for making this repeal a complete and total success.

*Assistant whispers in Amb. Riley's hear*

WHAT?!! It failed?! You stupid treehuggers!!!

*Shakes fist violently at fellow delegates.*

Well! The outrages I have suffered today will not be soon forgotten! I will not be forgetting ... those outrages. No, no! No, they won't be forgotten. Not the outra--

Ambassador seated next to Riley: Outrages, yeah, yeah, I think we got it.

Rest assured, honorable members: We'll be back. Unless we won't.

No dolphins were harmed in the course of this UN debate.

Ambassador of Palixia, A. Rose "Well as long as it's only international waters, our economy can still be a powerhouse, maybe people will endorse the 'Less Advertising' Proposal that I made."

Prince Esheram Byron Stood to address the Hushed Delegates of the UN General Assembly.

Members of this Esteemed Gathering, It is recognised with Profound regret that you have chosen Not to repeal Resolutions 70 and 106. Within a few short hours another debate will echo in this hall. The UNCoESB, United Nations Conservation of Endangered Species Bill.

It is aimed as a Single bill to replace and prevent other conservation bills from being ratified. It encompasses all species within All UN Nations.

Once it is ratified by you, I promise to again repeal the Resolutions 70 and 106 on the grounds of Redundancy.

Let us hope that the New Bill will be accepted and the subsequent repeals of 70 and 106 will be successful.

Thank you.

Senator Sulla stood up and said to Ambassador Riley,
"You did your best, sir, and we of the Palentine are proud of you. Never fear, we will eventually get the repeal passed. However in the meantime I have a way to protect the Dolphins in the Antarctic Oasis waters. "
Sulla leaned over and whispered in the Ambassador's ear. Then he straghtened and said chuckling,
"The Treehuggers would never think of that solution, Myuhhaaahaaaa!"
Then he looked around as he sat down, and said,
"Where's the Thessadorian ambassodor, I'd like to buy her a drink" :D

Like they say at the Oscars, it's an honor to just be Queued...or something like that.

You're a good writer, we look forward to reading more of your proposals.

And I swear my Nation will support one...just lay off of the Aquatic Mammals...and New Hamilton will be your biggest fan.

I have a great idea!
Lets make a "Protection of Cows Act"!
It should be illegal to kill cows, because they are cute. Sure they are eaten by people, sure they are not in danger of extinction, but who says you need a real reason to protect a species anyway.

Since this resolution's defeat, several nations have asked me about the NSwiki entry (ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Repeal_%22Protection_of_Dolphins_Act%22). This bump is just to inform the UN that the entry is complete (and can be viewed by following the link). Thanks go to Mikitivity and Gruenberg for their valuable contributions.
