I dont know if any of you have seens this proposal but I have and I have aquestion. Here is the Proposal:

A resolution to reduce barriers to free trade and commerce.

Description: The Government and People of the Republic of Hyronia,

RECOGNISING that patent infringement in developing economies is a serious barrier to free trade,

ACKNOWLEDGING the right of all inventors and corporations to protect their intellectual property across international borders,

and BELIEVING that the costs of consumer and industrial goods would be reduced, and availability increased if a system for intellectual property protection was globally implemented,

are PROPOSING that a regulatory body be set up under the control of the United Nations, as the United Nations International Patents Office (UNIPO) in order to arbitrate and grant international patents to inventors and corporations worldwide, as well as to review or reject possibly contentious patents, such as genome patents.

Now isn't that a game mechanics issue? Is there any person that is supposed to look out for proposals and catch if they infringe on the rules of NS?

I don't see any game mechanics violation, but I do smell a bit of branding...

I could've sworn I told him about branding.....

Anyways - no mechanics issues. Where do you think they are?

Game Mechanics
"We should make it so that all UN Members can vote on proposals before they reach the floor", "We should be able to vote on 2 proposals at once", "The UN should create <multinational organisation>". All of these proposals propose changes to the Game Mechanics governing the running of NationStates.

Not quite. A regulatory body is not necessarily a multinational organization. It's possible that it could be, but in this case of the UNIPO it doesn't say that it will be run by <number> of nations, so it probably falls under the committee rules, and as far as I can tell it's legal under the current committee rules.

As far as I can tell the proposed patents office is not comprised out of actual nations, but comprised from individuals sitting on a comittee which is perfectly fine.

Committees may be created, as long as certain things are kept in mind: nations do not sit on committees, they are staffed by mystical beings that instantly spring into existance and live only to serve on said committee. Committees are also bound by the above MetaGame rules. Also, keep in mind that Committees are additions to Proposals; they shouldn't be all the Proposal does.
