Category: Human Rights

Strength: Significant

Proposed by: Rich_PAFC

Description: To make every premisis, that is legally allowed to sell alcohol in the UN, to make a challenege 21 law on buying age restricted products such as beer, unless ID is shown. This will prevent underage drinking and things a like to another Level.

There are Too many teenages underage these days are drinking far too much at a young age. This also leads to youth-related-crime, and people always wonder why Anti-social-behaviour is so high, this is your answer. Other things could also relate to this, but drink is a major factor. If all Nations in the UN stuck to this, if became a law, will prevent underage binge drinking and also will reduce anti-social behavior. Also this causes a lot of problems to the health service's and introducing this system would take the strain of the health service treating patients that are young with drink related problems.

Approvals: 1 (Rich_PAFC)

Status: Lacking Support (requires 135 more approvals)

Voting Ends: Fri Aug 5 2005
-------------------------------------------------------------

We need your support on this, to stop underage drinking causing a problem with a young persons health, and also this will help prevent anti-social behavior. Also it will save the Health Service money.

We feel that this particular issue is best left for individual nations to decide. Cultural attitudes towards alcohol vary wildly from one nation to another.

BlueTiger agrees with Yelda. We feel that when when a country puts a taboo on something, their younger people are more likely to over use it when they can get it. By not telling our youth "You can't have alcohol untill your 21" then when they get to be 21 they won't over use it.

The Empire of Forgottenlands agrees with Yelda. If for no other reason than we possess proof right within our borders - believing the drinking age should be 18. I also note that there's a bunch of nations that support various species whos age of being legally allowed to drink varies depending on the specific features of that species.

I agree with Yelda and BlueTiger. Different countries have different attitudes towards Alcohol. Some may have white or red wine as a ceremonial or spiritual drink, while other countries may have a very strict Prohibition in place. This is best left up to individual nations, IMO.

Wow, I agree with everyone who's responded so far. Just leave it to the individual nations to decide.

The Commonwealth of Kayros agees with Yelda - it is the responsibility of sovereign nations to determine their own drinking ages, dependent upon culture, physiology, and other factors.

What everybody else has said, and for the following reasons. First, not every nation has the same age of majority, or they may have several ages at which some privileges are granted (driving at 16, smoking at 18, for example). Second, as mentioned, alcohol plays different roles in different societies. Finally, this pervasive attitude that everybody knows what every other nation needs, however well-intentioned, needs to stop.

Compadria recognises that the problems of alcohol abuse among young people can be widespread. But as has been so correctly stated by other nations, it is best left to individual countries as cultural attitudes towards drunkeness vary. In Compadria we mix tolerance and rehabilitation of abusers with a 'the more the merrier' attitude which has garantueed internal stability for years to come. Therefore Compadria declines to endorse this resolution.

May the blessings of our otters be upon you.
