It has been proposed by me that "Imagine" by John Lennon should become the Anthem of the UN. The title of the proposal is "Establishment of a UN Anthem" Discuss amongst yourselves.

:shrugs, drunk from way too many drinks at the Stranger's Bar:
It'll never pass, but why the hell not?
:supports proposal:
:pauses a moment, then really really hopes there was nothing in the fine print about bombarding people with nuclear weapons or slaughtering aboriginial tribes:
I dont find it neccessary, nor do I think it will happen. Everybody likes different music.

I don't think it will happen either, since "John Lennon" and the song "Imagine" are RL references and thus illegal. Having said that, I love John Lennon and this song. But as far as Lennons solo work, I like "God", or even "Mind Games" more than "Imagine". His solo albums usually had one or two good songs and the rest was, well, not so good. The stuff Lennon did as a Beatle was just much better than his solo work. Harrisons first 2 solo albums, on the other hand, were brilliant.

I said the lyrics are as follows: (lyrics), so rather on depending on real life references, I gave the actual anthem. I just gave credit where credit is due, rather than saying "Look at what I wrote!"

We feel that it would probably not be appropriate for an impartial organization such as the UN to use an anthem that calls for the immediate establishment of a global Marxist state. Besides, in our opinion the UN is better represented by the song “Send in the Clowns,” due to its metaphorical relationship to the peculiar maneuvers that often occur in UN member relations. Plus, y’know, the clown references.

Greater Boblandia's Proposed U.N. Anthem
Isn't it rich, aren't we a pair
Me here at last on the ground - and you in mid-air
Send in the clowns
Isn't it bliss, don't you approve
One who keeps tearing around - and one who can't move
But where are the clowns - send in the clowns
Just when I stopped opening doors
Finally finding the one that I wanted - was yours
Making my entrance again with my usual flair
Sure of my lines - nobody there
Don't you love a farce; my fault I fear
I thought that you'd want what I want - sorry my dear
But where are the clowns - send in the clowns
Don't bother they're here
Isn't it rich, isn't it queer
Losing my timing this late in my career
But where are the clowns - send in the clowns
Well maybe next year
<clap! clap! clap!>
Bravo! Brilliant! We wholeheartedly approve!

The incoherent outbursts, drunken lurches and savage violence endemic within the Halls of the UN call to mind any number of Tom Waits songs.
A Perfect Circle's remake of Imagine would be a much better choice. The lyrics could be viewed as hopeful, but there's always a tone of pessimism. Let's look at a few of the lines...
"Imagine there's no heaven...no hell below us." The world should do away with religion. Religion is an opiate that blinds people from reality. If we're going to fight a drug war, include religion in it. Make the world based on realism. "Religion is the opiate of the masses" - Karl Marx.
"A brotherhood of man, imagine all the people sharing all the world" This is a the perfect standing point for a people's republic. Why set up a democratic and capitolist nation to leave a select few feeding off the blood of the majority of poor? Everyone should get the same amount for working to their means. This can be enforced by setting up a foundation of a police state.
The pessimism in this song can also act as a warning. "In our new age of terrifying, lethal gadgets, which supplanted so swiftly the old one, the first great aggressive war, if it should come, will be launched by suicidal little madmen pressing an electronic button. Such a war will not last long and none will ever follow it. There will be no conquerors and no conquests, but only the charred bones of the dead on an uninhabitated planet." - William Shirer. How's that for world peace?
