UN Resolution Rules Question
Unblogged

Since the rules thread is closed and I didn't see this addressed in my overview of the thread...
What are the rules concerning resolutions submitted to the NationStates UN and the real UN Charter? What Charter is used for NS UN? Can the Real UN Charter be cited in arguments, or is there an NS UN Charter with its own set of articles and so forth that lay out the guidelines for resolutions?
Now, I know there are rules faqs that set out certain particular rules about what can and can't be done, but for instance, there are some things that the real UN Charter covers that these faqs simply don't...
Any mod answers?

Only a few of the moderators regularly read this forum, so if you only wanted moderators to reply, you might want to redirect your question to the moderation forum.
However, I believe I can give you an unofficial answer: the NationStates UN doesn't have a "Charter" and since our proposed resolutions can not make real world references, we can't reference the real UN Charter.
That said, the Rights and Duties of UN States resolution (#49) is a good document for Roleplayed diplomatic issues that you *can* point to. :)

Mm, I just created this nation and dropped Unblogged out of the UN and this one is awaiting confirmation...
Anyway, maybe we should draft a resolution that took the bulk of the Real UN charter (as it is really good) and make it part of the NS UN...

Not a Moderator.
You can cite RL(real life) references in your arguments here on the forum. You just can't include any RL references in the text of a proposal.

There have been discussions about writing a NSUN charter. I'm not convinced that we need one or that it would even be possible to write one, given the character limit for resolutions. Basically, the UN Faq, the Stickied threads at the top of the UN forum and the passed resolutions serve as a "charter". You might also include precedent setting Mod decisions.

I would be interested in finding out what the actual limit is - seeing as we've blown the 3000 and 3200 supposed limits without problems so far this week.

Just draw up a really, really long "foo" proposal and see if it fits in the submission box. If it doesn't, then begin removing characters until it does.
We (myself included) always make references to the "character limit". I don't think its based entirely on character count though. Blank spaces within the text probably come into play as well.

I believe when most processors (ie: Word) count characters, they count spaces as well.
