Repeal "Ban Chemical Weapons"

The Un Resolution #107: Ban Chemical Weapons, though pure in intent, fails to effectively ban chemical weapons. A new resolution must be drafted to better do this job.

NOTING: Resolution #107 bans chemical weapons, but fails to define the term "chemical weapon," effectively rendering the resolution worthless. Such a loophole allows:

-Use of Chemical Weapons
-Production of Chemical Weapons
-Sale of Chemical Weapons
-Synthesis of chemical agents used in chemical weapons

A new resolution must take it's place, and for that happen, Resolution #107 must be repealed.

The original resolution #107: Ban Chemical Weapons

A resolution to slash worldwide military spending.

Category: Global Disarmament

Strength: Significant

Proposed by: Mayakovskia

Description: The United Nations,

NOTING the positive consequences of Resolution 16, "Elimination of Bio Weapons", to global security and human welfare;

NOTING ALSO the precedents set by the following Resolutions: 40 (Banning the use of Landmines); 51 (Children in War); 57 (Reduce Black Market Arms Sales); 75 (The Nuclear Terrorism Act); 83 (The Eon Convention on Genocide); and 92 (Humanitarian Intervention) and their positive contributions to global security and human welfare;

REGRETTING that, although there are specific laws banning the trafficking and use of biological and nuclear weapons, there are as yet no such laws on chemical weapons;

BELIEVING that the world should be free of chemical weapons, as it now is of biological weapons;

RESOLVES to ban all production and trafficking in chemical weapons, and to take steps towards the ultimate decommissioning of all chemical weapons currently in existence.

Votes For: 10,006
Votes Against: 7,109

Implemented: Wed Jun 15 2005

You can see the clear discrepancies in the original resolution, and the need for a new, better resolution banning chemical weapons. Please support this repeal.

I agree that a repeal is necessary, though I think the resolution actually does a fairly good job of banning the production and sale of chemical weapons- "RESOLVES to ban all production and trafficking in chemical weapons" is relatively straightforward. I want it repealed, however, because it does nothing to define chemical weapons and puts UN nations behind rogue nations who are still allowed to use them in military confrontations.
