De-militarization of space

I am considering to propose the de-militarization of space. It will mean that no nation will be able to create nor deploy any Military space vessels, Military bases in space, or any other weaponry in space. The only allowed weapons will be for defensive purposes against space debris.

Do you all think this will be ok? Do you have any suggestions?

Do you all think this will be ok?If by ok you mean legal, then yes, if you mean would it be passed then no.
Do you have any suggestions?Yes, scrap the idea, it will never fly.

There will be half-a-dozen futuretech roleplayers in here any minute now to tell you all about how their spacedy navies already control low, middle, and high orbital postions of all the planets in this solar system, plus half a dozen more who own the nearby stars and galaxies. It's not gonna happen on NationStates.

Besides, our TNNN satellites use enough laser power to qualify as weapons under just about any rule ever proposed, even though all we use them for is the broadcasing of n00b wars in silly nations. So we'd oppose it too.

Sorry.

Edit: On further reflection, we suddenly realized we're not in the UN, so it would have no effect on us anyway. Yeah, go for it. We could use the reduction in competition, and will have a better market for selling spacedy intelligence to UN members.

Have at it!

There can be many interpretations of what constitutes "space debris".

We just recieved word from the Disciple of the Maintainer's Guild. Attempting this has been classified as an act of war. As per our normal policy, your nation is now being classified as subhuman and nonsentient. Continued attempts will result in your nation being bombed from orbit using a combination of biological weapons specifically designed to cause the flesh to painfully melt from your bones and 1.25 gigaton graviton missiles (which, due to their nature, deal 2.5 gigatons of damage each).

Also, many of the larger nations who dislike the UN make it a point to fund massive space fleets. While few in overall number, an efficient space fleet can easily destroy 95% of the UN in a single volley. Just something to think about.

well it worked in the real world.

ok, i am dropping the idea. I never officially proposed it.

Thanks for the the input and good luck with your wars, my country remains neutral.

Hey, no worries upon my part. IRl, its a good idea, but in a game? Hell noes! ^^

It was a good idea, and you should be thinking of more. Perhaps the creation of a new United Nations Headquarters, this time in orbit?

While Super-power is not in the UN....
We would vote against this resolution. We have an orbital fleet which we only use for defensive purposes, and it managed to prevent a tactical nuclear strike on our nation as well as a space colony drop.

Especially not when you have a nation that can launch 48 missiles of 2.5 gigatons of total destruction per missile in a single volley from one ship involved.

Nah. Putting it in orbit mixes it in with too much junk. Plus, the space requirements are too big.

I must agree. This won't fly. It has been tried before, and we threw it down. Why? If my country spends 1 billion dollars on a spacecraft, why would I send it into space unarmed? Doesn't makes sense to me. Anything can happen out there. You want to send a spacecraft out without the ability to defend itself from meteors, asteroids, and any manner of space debris, that's your issue, not mine. That doesn't take into account the Non-UN nations that have spacecraft for war purposes.

Only weapons capable of "removing space debries?" Hmm, that works for me....

My largish captital ships have weapons for "removing debries" which threaten transit on our exploration missions (debries like Star-Destroyers which pepper the interstellar exploration and trade routes)....
