Here's Vosgrad's proposal text:
Fair Trade
A resolution to reduce income inequality and increase basic welfare.
Category: Social Justice
Strength: Significant
Proposed by: Vosgrad
Description: I, as President of the Democratic States of Vosgrad, wish to bring to your attention the unfairness that is the selfish capitalism of corporations worldwide.
I wish to bring the unfair explotation of 3rd world slave labour to an end. To achieve this we will set a goal:
i) For all goods to be 'Fair Trade' goods in ten years.
Also I might add that this proposal will help to reduce the number of people in 3rd world countries living below the poverty line.

Umm...just for starters, it might be nice if you defined "fair trade" within the body of the resolution, then explained how it would accomplish the goal you have set. Then we can come back and talk.

These kind of things never seem to work. There were a load of proposals called 'Make Poverty History', and none of them got through.
If you really want to eliminate poverty, it would be good to submit a Free Trade resolution outlawing tariffs and agricultural subsidies, so that agriculture in poorer countries can compete on a level playing field. You'd probably then get support from both socialist and free-market nations.

Correction: outlawing such tariffs and subsidies in developed nations. There's a lot of disagreement over whether or not this is appropriate in developing nations. For the record, Ecopoeia - one of the latter - would fight such a proposal tooth and nail.

Mayakovskia believes that protectionism can never be a good thing, and that truly free markets are the best way to achieve better living standards for all. However, a partial ban like you suggest would be better than nothing, and we would support it if it appeared.

Thank you. I'll spare you the spiel on why nations like Ecopoeia need protectionist measures, if for no other reason than that I've delivered it countless times before in similar debates here in the UN and the thought of doing so again makes me want to run to the Starngers' Bar.

Please define 'Free Markets' and 'partial ban' as we find in our trade with certain nations that tarrifs often are higher than any cost to produce the product and that such tarrifs only profit the rich who own rights to the products not the workers who produce them. As it's the desire of this noble society (UN) to assure individual rights not group rights.. As once an individual has rights then they can work in peace with others to promote group rights. Without this there would be no groups thus no UN>.. as it's more individual than group... than it might consider itself..
How much is a 'partial ban' on an item or for that matter who decides what items shall be banned at any level.. Uranium is a product of many nations in here but because of the fear some nations will use it wrong it's being baned for sale to others who want it. Also a number of drugs are opposed but provide for certain nations a source of income suitable to what others might make off say corn or beans.. or beer and wine...
The ideas of the proposal are well intended just need more contex, butter and jam on them... as burnt dry toast is not good...

Ugh, no butter, please. And the jam has to be raspberry. Or loganberry, perhaps.
