Step 1: Post the proposal so we know what we're working with. For all we know, it could be a proposal about women's underwear.

Protection of Music
A resolution to restrict civil freedoms in the interest of moral decency.

Category: Moral Decency
Strength: Strong
Proposed by: Dis-American

Description: There are certain songs of the world that hold a special spot, not only in the hearts of generation that first to hear them, but to the generations to follow. This resolution would do the following three things to protect music for the next generations to come.

1) First it would protect such songs when the writers and original performers would not be able to.
Example of this is Michael Jackson selling The Beatles’ “Revolution” to Nike for a shoe commercial.
This Resolution would protect the following songs from ever being “covered” by anyone:

Led Zeppelin: Stairway to Heaven
Queen: Bohemian Rhapsody
Lynyrd Skynard: Free Bird
Nirvana: Smells Like Teen Spirit
Black Sabbath: Iron Man
AC/DC: Highway to Hell
The Clash: Rock the Casaba

The only time that these songs will ever be heard will be by the original artist. The only exception would be in the case of a live concert where the song could be preformed as tribute to said band, but that song could not appear on any live album.

2) The following bands must apologize for doing terrible “covers” of said songs:
Limp Bizkit: Behind Blue Eyes (The Who)
Kid Rock: Feel Like Making Love (Bad Company)
Madonna: American Pie
Metallica: Turn the Page (Bob Seeger)
Blues Traveler: Imagine (John Lennon)
Hootie and the Blowfish: The Balled of John and Yoko (The Beatles)

3) When a song is “sampled” for another song a member of the original band who preformed the song may not under any circumstances perfume with the new artiest. (i.e. Puff Daddy and anyone) If an artist like Jimmy Page (or Sting for that matter) wants to perform with any Hip Hop artist, they must first spend six months in intensive philological counseling before being able to perform.

This Resolution may be amended with new songs, but Songs may never be taken off.

Presented to the Assembly of the United Nations on eleventh day of June in the year two thousand and five, Common Era. By the representative Power of the People

Okay, I can already tell you this will be ruled as not worth the UN's attention. No one needs to read any further to see that.

Okay, that all has real-life references, making it further illegal. Plus, it calls for amendments, which is also illegal.

If you really want to do something to promote pop-music, I'm going to suggest that you consider either dealing with the "Fair Use of Samples" or finding some other "Free Trade" category that basically will make fewer international regulations related to copyrights associated with music.

Sure people will point out that this will screw larger bands out of sales, but guess what ... they don't need 14 homes in plush parts of NationStates. Smaller bands just need something that will allow them to get more exposure.

In any event the idea of dealing with music isn't bad, but it just needs to be treaded carefully.

But I am going to point out that all the bands you listed come from a very *limited* genre of music, so try casting a larger net.

Yeah, and I could see such a resolution making the NationStates record for "having the lowest number of votes in favour". ;) Perhaps he'll change course.

It will be hard to beat "Fight the Axis of Evil" in that regard. ;)

As a really big fan of The Clash, I'd just like to point out that it is "Rock the Casbah" not "Rock the Casaba". I believe a casaba is a type of melon. [/rant]

How about lowest "supported" resolution?

Equally hard to beat the Axis' percentage, too. 66% approval!

I'm hoping for the 33% approval resolution. ;) It is a long shot, given that in order to capture the 6% of UN Delegates in order to reach the UN floor, there is some base level of support for any resolution.

But yeah, I've personally considered the resolutions that break 2/3 support (super majority votes) to be strongly supported.

FYI: I hope this week to get the May UN archives updated ... that is unless I run down to a night club in San Francisco tomorrow night ... I feel the need to STOMP.
