Inflatable Gandalf Act
Category: International Security
Strength: Strong
Proposed by: Royston--Vasey

Description:
The Government of Royston--Vasey has noted a rise in the number of road deaths in all nations in the past 10 years. This is due to the reckless driving of some people who do not stop at crossings. To encourage drivers to stop and so reduce road deaths, the Inflatable Gandalf Act would install 4 inflatable Gandalfs on all road crossings which shout "You shall not pass" at speeding vehicles which refuse to stop at crossings where pedestrians are waiting to cross. Where there are no road crossings, the act would provide the local residents with their very own Inflatable Gandalf to aid safe passage.
We didn't write this. We didn't post this. Hell, we're not even in the UN. But this is a proposal we can get behind!

We urge ALL UN Delegates to Approve this resolution, even though it's probably illegal as hell. This is EXACTLY the sort of thing we should be passing here!

Thank you for tolerating this rant. Next?

Well... is it illegal?

Illegal or not, it's funny as hell, and if I were in the UN and Regional Delegate, this proposal would get my vote.

Well, here is Fris' opinion from the Silly Proposals thread:
I don't care that it's illegal. This is the best proposal I've seen in MONTHS!

* Goes to campaign for passage *
So, is it illegal? I think so. It violates the RL references rule. Of course, Gandalf is not real life, but he also exists outside of NS. Is it hilarious? Definitely.

Well, it fails the Branding rule ... and it's pretty clearly a Joke Proposal ... and it really has nothing to do with International Security ... and it definitely shouldn't be "Strong" ....

... but apart from that, looks good to me!

I really want to see a proposal like this pass all the requirements (other than joke) and just be let through. Most joke proposals have too much wrong with them to even be considered, but something like this if redrafted to fit the other rules should certainly be capable of reaching quorum.

He appears in the history of the various Tolkien-based nations of NS. That said, this is also some form of heresy to said nations, surely. Gandalf, is after all, in the Tolkien canon, an angel of sorts.

Greetings.

We of Roathin propose that this proposal be struck down, based on the following reasons.

1. There is already a freedom of humour resolution, which covers this general idea.

2. There is a reference to a being either venerated or of primary origin in the so-called RL universe.

3. The proposal would be detrimental to collective sanity in cities which have the block structure, especially if the interval of crossings is set such that they are within earshot of each other.

4. The proposal would be detrimental to its own intent should the pedestrians and motorists coming from four or more different directions all hear the same thing, i.e. "You shall not pass."

5. We also maintain that it would be prejudicial to good order in some states where this specific mechanism is used to reduce the effect of Balrog depredation in underground cave systems and such. Propinquity to the repeated refrain of the above sentiment would tend to immunize said Balrogs to the admonitory effect which so far has preserved countless lives.

We of Roathin rest our case, noting that there are many more reasons, but being unwilling to waste thread space. In summary to the proposal, "You shall not pass."

In the interest of humor....

"YOU SHALL PASS!"

Got my endorsement.... This is hilarious!

This noble endeavour has our full support and we look forward to that beautiful bright morning where we wake up to find it enshrined in the United Nations statute books.

Yet another in the long, ever expanding, line of useless proposals. The UN should not be in the business of securing the universes roads. This proposal is a blatant attempt to create one nation, not the many we have today. If this type of activity, ie. presenting these useless NATION type laws, the UN will, eventually, cease to exist. Why? Because the universe will be following one set of rules, that help no one, and satisfy no one.

I urge you to take this proposal and can it, where it should be. This is, yet, another attempt to remove power from the leader of your nation's hands and place it squarely in the hands of the UN.

I like how the nation has incorporated elements of their "nations" character into the proposal.

Watch the TV Series "League of Gentlemen" if you don't know what I'm talking about. It's a funny BBC programme.....very odd though!

Of course. It's a local Gandalf for local people, we'll have no trouble here!
