What is the UN doing??

Ok how is the United Nations going to force its members to teach a certain subject in THERE schools? The UN is starting to become a Goverment controling other Goverments. The UN is here to stop wars, decide on international laws, and international trade disputes. They are basicaly a court NOT a law making body. (unless it is an international law i.e. diplomats, international sea laws, and international air space) So there for i feel that the UN has over steped its agenda to be an international regulator. I pupose that a purposal be made up to PREVENT the UN from forcing public matters on nations (i.e. the Evolution Throey being thought in the class rooms) My schools WILL NOT teach that. (so please vote no on that **its at vote right now**)

A) there is an official thread, use it
B) are you a UN member? if not, than it wont affect you. if you are, you have to abide by it

Unforunately, there are many such cases where the UN buts into national affairs. Most times I think it stays focused on INTERNATIONAL issues, but not always.

You could always make a resolution protecting various member-nation rights...

I wouldn't normally be this snarky, but since the first post here belongs on the stickified thread, conveniently labeled with "AT VOTE" and the name of the resolution under vote, I have to. The power of Kovaro* compels me.

Well, they're not, though if they were to begin, I would suggest proper spelling and punctuation be included. Honestly, I don't mind an occasional slip of the fingers while typing (or a slip of the mind while recollecting a spelling), but to put it the misspelling in CAPS in the inappropriate location is nettlesome. Please don't do it again (start an inappropriate thread, that is, and by extension, misspell capitalized words in such a thread).

Reading comprehension. It's not just for secular nations. Honest!

Especially these parts.
The UN is the world's governing body. It proposes and votes on resolutions, which are then binding on all member nations. In other words, it's a hot-bed of political intrigue and double-dealing.and
The UN is your chance to mold the rest of the world to your vision, by voting for resolutions you like and scuttling the rest.

and

Wow! So, actually, its moe like an optional world-confederacy, with the member-nations as signifigantly autonomous provinces?

I tend to think of the NS UN as having more in common with the RL EU - the EU has the power to pass laws that override national soverignty.

ok so i can't spell a little but still the point is that the UN should not be butting into affairs i didn't post this in the AT VOTE thread cuz its just not this VOTE its other votes in the past and would i be typing in here if i wasn't a UN member

I actually agree with you mormon that the UN should not really be legislating on this kind of issue - it smacks of a "nanny state" which I don't really subscribe to. Just because the UN has the authority, it doesn't mean we should squander it on comparatively trivial issues.

Having said that, considering x number of delegates endorsed it at proposal stage, there is clearly a significant group that thinks otherwise. Since this proposal has reached voting stage, I'll be voting yes for it (on the basis of Hirota's personal beliefs, and it's intention to spread secularism over the UN). But it's not something I think the UN needs to vote on.

Generally, I don't like this sort of micromanaging either. But, with this proposal (which may not apply to the other resolutions you refer to, of course) it seems to be fairly non-intrusive. I mean, if this proposal were to become a resolution, I could still effectively supress the teaching of evolution as much as I can today.

What I'm saying is that I'm glad that at least this resolution is a "soft sell" rather than a "hard sell". But yes, I generally agree that there seems to be a bit too much micromanaging of member nations.

Methinks that The Mormon Church is in dire need of a stimulus package for its schools if even its leaders cannot seem to write a coherent statement before the UN. Be grateful for this coming upgrade of your educational system.

dont worry, i am concidering a repeal if it is passed based on illegality. how it got passed the mods has got me, because there are quite a number of passed resolutions that i mentioned in the official thread that cover this.
