Does anyone else find this stupid?

No, we don't.

Yes, as do the other thousands who voted against it.

However, loopholes are my friend, so I'm not going to argue this further.

It was passed before I joined. My main problem with it is, (and this quite possibly could have been brought up before when it was at vote, I'm too lazy to look up the thread) is that in the NationStates universe there could be a race of superhuman workhorses who derive immense pleasure and near orgasmic pleasure from working and for whom a sixty hour work week is nothing.

Yes, I find it stupid.

P.S. Stateing my Opinion

Krioval has no problem with the forty-hour workweek, and we're about as ardently capitalist as one gets.

Yes, but that's because to you 40 hours seems like a reasonable amount of time. In my oversimplified example above, 40 hours need not be the minimum limit.

The vast majority of people would be forced to work 100 hours a week so that a select few could enjoy themselves? Good luck getting a repeal based on that  .

You do realise that the resolution allows you to voluntarily work up to 80 hours a week right? Consider that there are 168 hours in a week. Take off 80 hours of work, and you have 88 hours left.
It is recommended that you have a least 8 hours sleep a night. 32 hours left.
This leaves you with just 4.5 hours a day to eat, wash, travel to work, relax, talk to other human beings, purchase required supplies and generally do anything else you might possibly want to do.

I was unaware the resolution allowed you to work 80 hours voluntarily (blame it on shoddy research :D ) , but I think there should be no limit to the voluntary hours you can work. If someone wants to work 90 hours, let him. I don't really care much about repealing it, but if one were to come up I'd support it. (Assuming someone already had a good idea for a replacement resolution.)

So you have them work for 40 hours, and perform "military service" for the other 20 hours.

Loopholes are your friend.

Or be socialist, and claim that everyone works for the government. ;)

I believe that most people would consider this to be a loophole.

Nice catch. I quoted the wrong part of his post. My apologies, and thanks for the laugh.

there are safety concerns surrounding working more than 80 hours a week. working too many hours can lead to fatigue that can put fellow workers in danger. we like the proposal as it stands, because it can guarentee 40 hours per week to workers, means companies cant force workers to work more than that, and those that want to work more, puts the cap at 80 hrs, therefor not endangering the safety of them or other workers.

Unless of course these are citizens of New Krypton, which orbits around a yellow sun, giving them incredible superhuman strength and power.

well, yes, but remember, this is a general resolution, and there is just not enough room to include every different variable of every different race. AIs can work non-stop, 24/7, but that is a minute thing in the general scheme of things
